2008 new link on engine
« on: August 12, 2007, 10:13:26 AM »

Well I haven't anything written here yet and I asked my dealer and I had to show him what I was talking about.

What is up with the new link connecting the cylinder head to frame?

You mean that redesigned top motor mount/stabilizer link?  Used to be in the center between the cylinders.  We just didn't see it behind the horn and under the gas tank.

I saw that link on the new 08's at the dealer also and assumed it was there to finally address the vibration of the engine maybe lessoning the shimmy at speed in the turns. looks like there was a tab welded to the frame rail.

I didn't look to see if the lower one was removed, if so maybe putting it up higher reduces the stain on the front motor mount?

I didn't look to see if the center one was gone, the bikes were stacked to close to kneel down and look at the details.

Chit, now you guys got me curious and I'm going to have to stop by the dealer and take a close look.  I've been staying away to avoid temptation, so if I do something stupid I'm blaming you folks.

The way I read the '08 information was that the FRONT stabilizer was moved to the front cylinder head, and the front motor mount was redesigned to limit travel.  This lead me to believe that the stabilizer link located near the front motor mount on the '07 and earlier models was being moved up to the head area.  The stabilizer under the fuel tank is the TOP or UPPER stabilizer.

The stabilizer link was moved from under the tank to the front head. It’s my sense that this and other changes were implemented to accommodate the 6 gallon gas tank.

The lower stabilizer is still there.

Not sure why the upper was moved.  I hope it was to make it more functional, because it didn't do anything for the looks.

It was moved to make room for the throttle box for the fly by wire set up.  Doc  The middle one is no longer there.

There is a box on the side of the fuel injection for the fly by wire throttle.
