Question on new bike
« on: August 24, 2007, 03:51:08 PM »

Will be picking up my White 08 SEU next week hopefully. Got a few question on additions. Want to add a SERT when they become available. Probably will wait till 1K checkup. I am not sure I will change the exhaust since I don't want a loud bike anymore. Thinking about putting the SE air filter on now, and deciding about the exhaust when I put the SERT on.

Does it make sense to put the air cleaner on now with out a more free flowing exhaust? Realize I won't see the full benefit of it. Is it a good idea? If I decide to keep the stock pipes will a SERT still benefit me in tunning for a little better performance and a cooler running engine? Thanks

Welcome, the way I understand it you can change mufflers but if you change AC you need to ad a tuning device and add canned map until you can have it dyno tuned to dial it in and beleive me a great tune makes all the difference. Good luck with it and once you get it right it will be way more fun to ride. :bananarock:

You should have the aircleaner done at the same time you get the SERT.  -Steve

orgtech,

I wouldn't change out the air cleaner until you also have the SERT installed.  And even with the stock pipes and/or air cleaner, a good tune will improve driveability and performance while helping to reduce engine temps.  In other words, even if you change nothing else, I would recommend that you add a SERT or other device and have the bike tuned.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll hold off on air cleaner untill I get the SERT and then decide on the pipes or not. Until then I'll just enjoy the ride.

Orgtech,

I will echo the advice others have offered;  until you can get a tuning device (SERT, PC, TMAX), I would probably leave the bike completely stock.

Regarding the exhaust: since you would like to keep it on the quite side, I would recommend that you consider the V&H TruDual Headers and then add slip-on mufflers of your choice.  The TruDual headers will enhance the performance, get some of the heat away from your right leg, and IMO improve the looks of the bike.

Again, I would just leave the bike stock until you can add a tuning device and get it dyno tuned.  The dyno tune is a MUST >> You won't regret it.

When you say "white" I am assuming you are getting the White and Silver combo?  I have heard that will be the next "wave" of colors coming in on the CVO Ultra.  I am hoping for either the White/Silver or Anniversary Combo.  Would be thrilled with either of those color combos... Please post a photo when you take delivery of yours...
