Traxxion - Bitubo alternative
« on: September 01, 2007, 06:26:19 PM »

After today's ride my mind is made up, the stock suspension on my 07 SERK has to go. Unfortunately I don't live close enough to Atlanta to make a quick run over there nor do I really want to buy something that I cannot have serviced locally. In short I am seeking opinions as to the best alternative to the traxxion cartridge and bitubo shocks. Also seeking opinions regarding leaving bike at current height or raising to standard height. At current height I drag the boards a lot and I am tall enough to handle the extra height. Thanks in advance for all advice.

Twojay,

LA ain't that far away, just a good day's ride.

Seriously, I don't know of a comparable solution for the front end. For the rear, I'd go with the Progressives, but then again, when they start leaking you'll have to ship them to get them worked on.

Suspension components are really serviceable unless you're tooled to do it. What this means to me is that I'll be shipping what I've got, somewhere, to get it fixed. That somewhere might as well be Traxxion as compared to California.

If you're looking for a quality piece, the Traxxion set up will be VERY hard to beat, especially at the price.

Chief, Thanks for the info. I am sure that you are right though I really wish you weren't.  :)  Atlanta is 650 miles from where I live in SW Louisiana.  The biggest problem I have in making such a trip is not the riding but the time factor as I have a 10 year old daughter who has soccer every weekend. Also I am divorced and she lives with me so even taking off work a couple of days would be hard. However guess a road trip will be in my future as I hate the standard suspension on my bike. Again thanks for the help.

Twojay,

Most people send in their forks and do it all via UPS. There really isn't much to gain by having it done in the shop, except it's a bit quicker. They'll send you the front end all reworked and set up for you to pop back in.

If getting over here is too dificult, that'd be the way I'd play it.

Good luck.

One option would be to either pull the forks yourself, or have someone do that for you, then box them up and ship to Traxxion for the rebuild.  A couple of people have done that with good results.  Of course, the Bitubo shocks are so easy, you could do those yourself.  There really is just not another equal solution to the AK-20 cartridges, IMO.

Personally, I would raise the bike up to full travel on the suspension, particularly if you are tall enough and are dragging your boards.

JJ, jump on your bike and hightail your ass to Atlanta! I raised mine one inch, back to normal height. I did both the AK-20 and the BiTubo's. It will be worth the trip. It is one of the best mods you'll do to your bike. You will not regret doing this. If you are going to HS, you'll see what I'm talking about on mine. If not, just go to Atlanta! Period! Talk to them about the brakes too. If they don't carry PM, bring them with you and have them mount them while everything's apart. ;)
