Painted wheels
« on: September 30, 2007, 08:02:00 PM »

After many tries to get the peeling chrome issue resolved with the local dealer I decided to try to paint my wheels black. What do you guys think? I will try to post whole bike pics tomorrow if the day is clear.

I definitely can understand your frustration (peeling chrome) and going w/black wheels. But because of my "Chrome Addiction" that look just doesn't do it for me. That's just my humble opinion but if you're happy w/them that's all that matters. :2vrolijk_21:

Looks kinda like you have serious brake dust issues :nervous:, but I'll reserve final judgement until we get to see the whole bike.

Still never got even close to a wheel choice that flipped all my switches for the red bike.  So even though not a huge fan of the SEEG2 wheels they're still there.  Found a powder coater that offered something called "chrome pearl maroon" that I've been tempted by though.  In the small size of a sample its a very cool looking color.

A relatively local shop has the color.  Keep meaning to take them a hunk of something to color so I can see it on a larger canvas next to the bike.  If it looked good I might do the stock wheels.

This flat textured black actually is a nice looking color and effect.  At least to my tastes, however, the wheels on the bike aren't an ideal place for it though.  Just got to have some shine or some gloss there  :2vrolijk_21: .

hehe, no need to convert. i love the bikes i see that are shiney and detailed. my personal bike however is an anti-HD statement. abstract if you will-------everything i do to it is for function.

being a test mule, iiit gets heads pulled, cams changed, pipes modified, has several mods to wire harness (quick connect for wideband commander, data logging, etc:) no teling how many combination air cleaner/backing plate it has seen.

now add the fact that i live on a dirt (mud when wet) road that is over 1/2 mile from blacktop. this is over 40 miles from work in rural alabama. constantly barraged by bug swarms, peanuts falling off trailers, and the ocassional blob of bubbas chewing tobacco.

after cleaning and wiping down each customers bike, i have other things to do at the end of the day besides detailing my bike. it is a "rinse and drip dry" type motorcycle. besides, the added weight of chrome slows ya down!!!

the look professionally painted, with the orange hd in there.  Good job, maybe a contrast would have looked better, like the black in the middle with chrom outside of it.  But you probably couldnt do that, it looks like it would have to be all or nothing.

I like the black wheels on your  :pumpkin:. Just got a 2000 RG w/ black powder coated wheels and the black works real well w/ it.
