Sidecar on a Road King?
« on: October 25, 2007, 06:17:00 PM »

Harley Davidson says no to this. Why? Aren't the RKs built using the same frame configuration as the other touring motorcycles?

Are the RKs lowered from normal stock height?  If so that's the reason that was given for the SEEGs.

SERK's are, but RK's aren't. The question is about a RK, not necessarily a SERK. And I've heard not to use them on a RK before too. But have no idea why. :nixweiss:

You know they always say you can do this or that on one bike, but not on another. But then it works fine on the bike you're not supposed to use it on. It's usually some kinda liability thing or something like that.

Lowering would (then) be the excuse for the SERK.  On a standard RK, however, there's not any good reason I can think of.  Have read before of the contraindication for putting a hack on a Road King.  Also seen more than a few Road Kings go hacking away.  If it ain't broke, ride it.

I just got sidetracked by a German guy with three claw hammers! That's the best talent I've seen for some time! Great video!

So a hack could be had with standard rear shocks on a SERK! Hoist, you're a keen reader and good info.

Appreciate the responses! Now to take another look at a sidecar!

i saw one last weekend. but H-D has always published no

could it be they want the extra weight of the glide fairing to offset the side load of the hack?

No problem SE08! Hack you SERK away! ;)

I've already raised my SERK suspension front and rear, back to stock RK height. It's not recommended to raise only the rear. You'll need to raise the front as well. Adverse handling could occur by only doing the rear. You can get away with a lower rear and a standard front. But not visa-versa. I raised mine to get back the lean angle for better cornering and clearance. I was never a fan of lowered bikes myself.

Good luck with your new SERK. And congrats on your new Jr. Member status. No more Newbie!!! :2vrolijk_21:

Here's a nice RK with a liberty sidecar, I'd like to get a second bike with a sidecar.
