Hydraulic Line
« on: February 27, 2005, 08:22:19 PM »

Check the placement of your clutch hydraulic line. Mine was rubbing against the engine case. After the coating on the line wore off the line sawed a groove into the casing while itself wearing out. Line has not sprung a leak yet but it is close.

Mack, good catch.  I believe there was a TSB on this.  Maybe MFG can find.  Is the braided stainless actually wearing off the line?  You've got to go through the plastic covering, then the stainless to get to the rubber line underneath which seems like it would be tough to do, but anything's possible over time.

Some time ago, I noticed mine doing the same thing.  Rubbed thru the plastic and left a mark on the case.  One zip tie later and no more issue.

Mack, seeing your post in the cam chain shoe thread reminded me of this.

I replaced the line myself. It was the middle of bike week and did not want to spend all day waiting for a simple job. The dealer said the line was not covered by my extended warranty but HD said it was. I would need to get a job order written by the dealer in order to get reimbursed for the part. The part cost $55 minus the $50 deductible. It was not worth the argument to save the $5 so I droped it.

FYI: This was not the dealer I normaly work with. They were just the only one that had  the part.
