« on: November 14, 2007, 09:11:58 PM »

i have a 07 fxdse.. i have sert, dyno time, se big sucker, and vance and heins short shots.. the bike went well at first. maybe I'm used to it. but I'm a big guy 320lbs.. and the bike doesn't do well against others down bottom. but the bike rolls up top. i can get 123 out of 4th gear. but the lower gears just are not there. so do i gear it down? I'm looking for qtr mile times to come down.. i dont go on crazy long rides either, i got about 6000 on it this year.. i have no idea what i shoud do. i would appreciate advice thank you- jon from nh

I've been thinking about this same thing.  I'm picking up my new SERK Annie in two days and with the wife and I on it we may need a bit more low end.

When I was in Hawaii this past August I rented a '07 Electra Glide stock with the 96" motor.  Boy talk about 5th gear noise!!!!!  It would make my Shovelhead sound quiet.

On that bike with us both on 1st gear was a bit too high.  I had to slip the clutch a bit too much to get us going up some of the very steep coast streets.

Instead of changing out the rear drive sprocket, I'm thinking if someone makes a new motor sprocket that would drop a couple teeth, that be about right.  This way with the motor sprocket it doesn't mess with your speedo, just increase the rev's prior to the trans.

I thought I read some place like maybe Baker had a sprocket without the compensator that would do the job.  With the IDS rear drive it may not be that bad without the compensator, anybody know?????

I'm sure the self tensioner would have to and a manual tensioner or some way to convert a M-6 spring tensioner like I did on my '76 FLH.

Anyway, that's my 2ยข of worthless information.

Good luck and let us know what you did and how well it helped.  I may still be doing something to my new SERK.
