Electric Glide CD Player Alternatives
« on: November 08, 2004, 11:21:36 AM »

Has anybody replaced the factory CD player with something other than what the HD dealer has to offer on any model Electric Glide? If so, did it work with remote controls? [smiley=huh2.gif]

I've thought about this myself...they do make adapters that are supposed to work.  Here is an example:

In the thread rear speakers someone said they had a great system that worked with the handle bar controls but don't think he ever posted it.  Biketronic has something I believe may check there.  Let us know what you find.  LOL

I just purchased a Kenwood CD/MP3 Receiver model #KDC-MPV5025MRCC should be here Thursday
Here is a couple of links for those interested:
1) KENWOOD MARINE RECEIVER       2) KENWOOD MARINE RECEIVER
It is designed for marine applications and includes wiring for remote controls (gonna have to do some trial and error to get the stock controls wired/working)
Will keep everyone posted (I will try and create photos of the install and a wire diagram of my installation) [smiley=2thumbsup.gif] [smiley=speechless.gif]
Oh yeah another big plus is the illumination is RED
The down side is I will lose weather band (I won't lose any sleep over that one)

Are you adding rear speakers or will you try to bridge the output...if this is possible?

I will bridge the outputs, also after further research their is a weather band option Kenwood KTC-WB100 (seperate small unit that plugs into the receiver) it costs an extra $70
again a link for those interested:
KTC-WB100
I probably will not go for the WB initially

The latest update:
I just ordered a package that is designed to install this particular receiver in an electric glide. I am told that package contains a wiring harness, some device that converts our stock hand controls to infra-red signals allowing you to program any function you like into your controls, also some mounting hardware and a faceplate filler ($200).
Again the link:
Dragonfly Cycle Concepts
This guy at Dragonfly has the Kenwood receiver as a package deal

The finished install, so far I am very happy with the sound but I don't have many miles on the unit. [smiley=1syellow1.gif]

I'm sorry, the pics are on the website and the radio is in my standard which is now at Famous mikes re Trade-in. Yes I installed it my self and with the sony system it actually brought the sound to ear level. I opted for the MP3 /cd /am-fm with blue of red display. I also liked the fact that the title scrolled across the face and the AVC worked fine. The J&M speakers were a snap to install and even came with the adapters. Everything you needed was included and the radio is available in all stores for like 175 bucks
I got my thru Crutchfield.com. I'm sorry no pics on my bike but you understand I have a 05 now and that was on my standard 03 hence the radio aftermarket. I herad Mike {Pres Of Biketronics} is doing something with sony, Shame Harley won;t get into the 21st century with their radios [smiley=bigok.gif]
