Oh man Dayne......deja vue.  Fortunately for me, Jim's (hd-dude) shop is only 100 miles from here.  I pass several dealerships going to him but in the end, it's well worth it.  I did business at the same dealership for thirty years but the new owner was very closed minded and just would not listen to the customers.  Like you, I just go there to try on motorclothes now. ;D

I've been to that dealership in Victoria.....a very nice store.....once you find it.

No worries... that dealer will soon be OUT OF BUSINESS...

Your customers will treat you EXACTLY the way YOU treat THEM...

I have never had a problem with a dealer refusing warranty due to mods. My local knows I have the TTS and I installed it myself. They don't have a problem with it. Years ago I spun a main bearing on my 85 fxrs ( around 1992) and the dealer got me warranty on my cases! Blew my mind! I guess its going to be a shop by shop basis. like others here if that is a problem I would no longer use that dealer. Good Luck!

I read the posts in this thread.  I'm not clear if someone has actually had warranty work not related to the headers/exhaust denied because they put the Fullsac headers on.  Has anyone been denied warranty work because of the Fullsacs?

Of my two local dealers, one is my favorite, because they treat people right.  I didn't buy my bike there, because they couldn't get one from another dealer, but one of the salesmen used the bike locator and found me seven (7) 2011 CVO's scattered throughout the mid-West, one of which I bought.  He didn't make any $$'s on that, but he knows he has my business for parts, clothes, and any service that I can't/don't do myself on previous bikes and this one.  When I had 300 miles on the bike and was complaining about the cat heat, one of the other salesmen was trying to talk me into a full V&H system, because thats what their in house dyno man likes the best.  I told him I had already ordered my Fullsac Stage 1, he had never heard of them.  The Fullsac stuff arrived mid-week, with a T-shirt, which I wore to work the next day.  I rode by the dealership with a question for the service manager.  He saw my Fullsac shirt, and said "really good stuff!".  I replied, "yeah, it came yesterday, I'm putting it on this weekend."  They put exhaust and maps on brand new bikes before they ever leave the floor.  Once you get it broke in, you take it back for the dyno sessions, if needed/wanted.  I'm sure if you have a warranty issue, they can determine if the aftermarket/modified part caused the failure or not, and react accordingly, without using the modified part as an excuse to not do the warranty work.

On the other hand, I went by the same dealer today, and a new salesman told me I shouldn't make any mods until the warranty had expired.  It all depends on who you talk to, and how much they know about the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

I had dealer install a Rush Header and Reinharts with a SERT and dyno'd the bike. I received it with one mile on it They had the parts in stock and wiling to do the work. Never had a thought about warranty issues.

If an aftermarket exhaust would void your warranty, then the MoCo would have almost NO warranty claims at all.

I don't know the percentage of bikes out there that still run the totally stock exhaust... but I'll bet it's not even 1 in 10. Changing the exhaust is one of the first things that most owners do to a new bike, I suspect! It's the first thing I did, and the Fullsac X-Pipe changed things MUCH for the better!

Its not changing the exhaust/headers that worries me. Its changing the ECM with the TTS (or whatever tuner you use) that worries me.  Everyone changes the exhaust.  Not everyone changes the ECM other than the reflash done by the dealer when the stage one is done.

Do you mean that there's somebody out there that still wastes their money on a reflash?  I thought that went out in the days of Evos. :nixweiss:

What reflash?  I did not think that a reflash for Stage 1 was available any longer...not since '06.  Technically, even the SERT (or today's equivalent) voids the warranty, because it is a "race only" application.

How many HD's have you seen/heard that are bone stock?

IMO, the bottom line is:  any given dealer across the US might be an ass when it comes to doing warranty work if the ECM has been changed, and particularly if it has been REPLACED with an aftermarket "black box".  Since the TTS is basically a SERT, if push came to shove, they'd have a hard time refusing to do work on the engine.  Refusing to do work to other bike components due to an ECM program change that has absolutely no effect on that component would be a big bunch of chit.  However, fighting with a dealer in BFE on your vacation, 3,000 miles from home, would not be a pleasant experience, regardless...so, you plays your hand, and you takes your chances.  If a person wants absolutely no questions concerning warranty work, leave the bike bone stock, then there are no worries, other than whether any given dealer can actually FIX whatever problem is happening, which is a crapshoot in itself.  All of it really boils down to what dealer you're dealing with.

Good points. I think the MoCo would alienate the vast majority of their customer base by refusing to honor a warranty claim for something unrelated, simply because of a map change... I but suspect that it's happened.

The dealer I go to the most actually SELLS the TTS MasterTune unit, and displays it prominently right on the shelf behind the parts counter! They told me that they even recommend it over the H-D SERT, etc... and I highly doubt that they make it a point to tell everyone who buys it that it will void their warranty... but maybe they do.

BTW, the TTS MasterTune software saves your stock map, and you can restore it at any time if you're concerned about the TTS map causing any issues with a warranty claim.  Of course, you might not have your laptop on a road trip to do that from... but you can get a small "netbook" to do it from, and those don't take up much space... all you need is the netbook, the TTS unit, the TTS cables... and optionally the netbook power supply... Well, maybe a little bit more room!

:ROFLOL: I ALMOST put that in my post!

Having an iPad app for it would be brilliant. But alas... there's no USB connector on the iPad... so you'd need yet ANOTHER special cable to hook up to the iPad's power connection. Bluetooth would be even COOLER! Not looking for it to happen tho...
