average life expectancy for a US male is somewhere around 75 years.  That means middle age is 37.5 years.  I'm on the down side of the hill and picking up speed.  Funny thing....  I was out for a ride with a couple guys recently and we stopped by breakfast.  One guy orders oatmeal and I asked him if he was trying to boost his HDL.  This turned into a discussion a discussion on over the counter cardiac therapies and diets.  You think we had those talks in our 20's?  Hell no, let's get WINGS with the pizza just in case it isn't enough!
