I bought TWO bikes today!
« on: December 22, 2007, 07:46:03 PM »

Following the suggestions from riders who took the Ride Like A Pro course from me, I purchased a couple of used Kawasaki Police motorcycles for training bikes. Some of the riders were a bit hesitant to really lean their own bikes way over in the tight turns. So I picked these up for folks who would rather ride one of mine their own. No bling, but they are good bikes. Here’s a picture. I’ll probably remove the headlights too.

Wow, talk about taking one (two) for the team.  That is very generous of you.  I expect you are renting these for some nominal fee.  What has an owner got invested if they have nothing to loose?

Well for me, the business owner of Ride Like A Pro West Coast, I have invested $1,700 a piece for the bikes. For the rider owner taking the class on their CVO, well you KNOW how much you have already invested, so $150.00 to learn on a bike your not worried about dropping is priceless.

When Pinkie took the MSF course several years ago, she trashed out a Honda Nighthawk when she crashed it. Tank, controls, turn signals etc. They just brought her out another one and said "Here ya go. Wanna try again?" Crashing someone else's bike is a lot easier on the nerves. Back then it was only $50 for the class with an endless supply of bikes.  ;D

Mark, that's a great investment for your business.  It has to increase your ridership.

I do occasionally visit the mall parking lot after hours and practice a little.  But I don't get extreme with it.  And I know that doing a class like yours I'd inevitably scrape some.  Just part of the program.

Consequently I'd not take the class.  At least not on my bike.  While the benefits would be real for taking the class the frustration would just bug the hell out of me.  I'd pay the class fee and look forward to the class if I knew another machine was an option though.

You got that chit right. I'd go into OCD DT's hearing my floorboards grinding/scraping like they would in a class like that. :nervous:

Sounds like a wise move, you should recoup the initial investment fairly quickly.

Amen Dood.  A class like Mark's isn't necessarily "extreme" but it's still one screw up from significant cosmetic damage.  I readily admit I'm fully capable of screwing up.  No way I'd run our bikes through his course.  Just wouldn't do it.  Right or wrong; it's just not going to happen.

I wouldn't ride his bike with the intent of "oh, I can tear this one up."  But I would ride knowing that if it scrapes or drags it's just part of the process.  That's a big difference.  That Mark is allowing the option now is a big deal.  It'd also make a difference for guys visiting the area via other transport.  They could take the course without having to have ridden there.

That's another reason too. I've had guys come out from as far as Las Vegas, NV, or Denver, CO. and then rent a bike from Eagle Rider or Rte66 Riders just to take the course.

Good thoughts to park in the memory bank in case some kind manager decides a work visit to the West coast is in order.  Great idea.

There's that, and then there are folks that come out on vacation. LA gets a lot of folks from the frozen hinterland who see the sunny warm Rose Parade, and get the idea to take their kids to Disneyland on Spring Break. I figure that while one spouse is running the kids through "Small World" for the umpteenth time, the other spouse can be taking the course.

Anyway, like you said it's just another option.
