How to remove turn signal switch
« on: December 28, 2007, 05:18:55 PM »

Well after installing new chrome starter and other goodies I went to finish up with chrome switch covers that Santa left and everything went smoothly except for the darn turn signal switch. The wire to the housings seem so tight that it seems like something is gona break befor I get enough slack to unscrew the switch. Any advise or trick Im missing?? Thanks again.

There is a wire tie that holds the harness to the switch bracket inside the housing. Cutting this will give you a bit more slack if you can get to it. If not then you will need to access the harness where it exits the bars under the tree clamp and free up psome slack there by pushing it into the bars.

Good Luck!

PS. I would rather rebuild a motor then put those switch caps on! They are a b*tch!

Agreed, Jim.  Putting those screws back in requires the ability to work upside down with someone holding a large box beneath to catch the screw if you drop it.  Then there's trying to understand how all of that came from that very small place. Lastly making sure that everything still works after.  I asked my dealer to put them on and the SM made a face.  He said there's always problem.  I did my own softail Deuce with no issues, just a lot of time.

Be careful of the little spring that holds the brake light switch.  You won't even know its gone.  Check the manual to see where it lives. Also, very easy to damage the brake switch.  There is (07+) a similar switch on the clutch side for the neutral start saftey thing.

I think someone made stick on chrome switch cap covers.

I have done at least a dozen and every time I say I will never do that again.
