Fact or fiction ?
« on: September 06, 2007, 09:43:31 PM »

Is it true that the jig H-D dealers use to bore cases for 110 and 113 upgrades doesn't require bottom end tear down ? I heard something about pressurizing cases and leaving the wheels and rods in the case and case in the frame when this is done. Anyone know whether this is fact or fiction ?

Big B,

I believe hogasm just did a 113" at the dealer with one of his friends, he can probably best answer this quickly for you as to what they did.

The one my dealer was about to do it was a 96 to 110 they had removed all the guts to do the boring, but ended up sending it out due to the lack of clearances.

That would be fiction.

Jock,

See attachment, from SE Pro Catalog.  The fixture is designed to be used in a large drill press or milling machine, with the cases removed from the bike and the guts removed.

Fiction there Big B.......shavings from the case have to go somewhere......and the bit won't fit over the rods.

Complete tear down necessary....best time for a timkin bearing

Posted to Big B's first post before seeing all the other posts. ....That is the little tool. Not very scientific or precise either. Well it is as close as a good pair of calipers are. Pain in the azz also. Every time you tighten up the allen screw that keeps everything in place, the dag gone thing moves. Took me 5-6 times to get it right the first time.

As you see the drilling bit won't clear the rods...and the shavings are going to go into the case...thorough cleaning necessary to remove them all.
