The auto industry also has VIN's hidden on the frame of the vehicle

Ahh, Duane, you weren't supposed to tell them that.  They're hidden for a reason.  ;D

Actually, nowdays there's more than one hidden VIN along with the ones everyone knows about.  They exist only to assist law enforcement, and it normally requires a fair bit of disassembly to get to them.  In addition, vehicles in the top X% of the statistics for stolen cars are required to apply VIN's to the various parts, such as doors, hoods, deck lids, bumper covers, etc.  In those cases a stick-on decal is used.

Not to hijack this thread but when I go to events I see people all the time ride in, get off their bikes and walk away.
Beats all I have seen.
Then they are upset because their bike gets stolen.
I have locks, and locks for the locks just to make it as difficult to take my bike as possible.
I'm hoping the thieves look and see the locks and think, "This ones too much trouble, lets move on".
We all have insurance but it never covers enough!

That's me.  But then, if someone was going to steal a bike, I think they'd pick the cleaner one.

Mrs. We

I don't know any thieves or I would ask them but I don't think it matters whether it's clean or dirty.

Your right, I forgot to add the smiley faces to indicate I was joking.   :D ;) ;D

Seriously,  many wise riders have told us, repeatedly, it's lock it or loose it.   :o

I don't have to worry about locking up my bike.  Most thieves know that they won't get very far, very fast on a 110 before the top end blows.   :D  :D

Hey......whatever works.  It's a constant awareness/mind battle w/ the thieves.  We work......they don't.  >:( I'm not fond of thieves on general principles and esp. when they take scooters.   :hanged: :behead: :knife: :toilet: arrrrgh.  spyder

Those are the ones I was referring too.
Although, at one time in my former career, I had access to the "secret list", and that was before Gore invented the internet.
