Garmin 276 - 478 series, do you have?
« on: January 29, 2008, 10:40:29 AM »

Besides myself and AJ, anyone else?

In particular the 478.
I have had multiple power cord failures and the screens are made differently then the earlier models.
Wondering how many other power cord issues.

I know AJ has gone through multiple power cords, definitely one of the weak spots of that design.

Too funny. I thought it was just me. My 276 worked flawlessly, but my 478 give me trouble from time to time. I have found that the power cord is much harder to seat in the socket on the 478 vs. the 276.

There is a definite problem. I have found on the net a few other people with the same problem.
Right now I have 5 bad 12v cords and 1 AC cord (only used  once or twice).

Duane, send those puppies back! Call 1800-800-1020 and tell them that you have two that are under warranty and then just keep sending them back until you have them all replaced. I have done that with all of mine. And it is the 478 that is the culprit here. I used the 276 plug in the 478 and it pulled apart.

AJ,

I have an RMA to return the unit for the screen, and I will put a note in with it complaining about the cords.

I also got the OK to send "all" my broken cords back to the tech support guy I have been going back and forth with.
