I bought a set of the locks, tried several different ways to install and I cannot get them to clear the mounts. And the allen head screws seem to be in between metric and sae, so by the third attempt at installing the locks the screw head is almost wasted.

I may just drill and tap the the bracket and use a bolt, possibly a security style screw if I can find one.

Twolane;  When you go to get the detachable locks, make sure to get the 2 pak. This contains 2 detachable locks keyed exactly the same. You can put one on the king pak and one on the chopped pak and you don't have to guess which key fits which lock.

The locks are tricky to install on the tour-pak. I put one on the backrest rack which went on easy and exactly like the instructions. The one on the tour-pak was a Bear to get it to work, but it does. Good luck

Tony

When I did have the lock on and "almost" in position, the key would not clear the tour pack. Looks like in oreder for the key to work it would have to be made shorter.

Did you have that problem?

Tony;
I had the exact opposite problem. The locks work great but I can't get them to work on the backrest. HMMM.

Porthole2;
You're right you can't get the key on the lock because of clearance problems with the tour pak bracket. I carefully put the keys in a vice and cut off about an inch then made a new 90 degree bend and drilled a small hole so it would fit on a keychain. Works great now!

I can't believe the solutions people come up with on this board.  Mobe, tell me you didn't use your DeWalt to drill that hole.  I need a drill press, at least a bench mounted one.  Is this my excuse?

Since you brought it up. I saw a real nice floor mounted drill press at a farm and home store called Atwoods for about $150 and a nice bench mounted one at Lowes for the same money.
Actually I did hand drill the holes in those keys. I used a punch, a steady hand and things came out OK.

Mike,
If you ever need access to a drill press I've got an old floor unit out at the shop where the old cars are.  It's old but it works fine.  Kinda like me........

Thanks Twolane.
 I think I need to build a bigger shop. I'm starting to run out of room.
I saw on one of your posts that you went on a 5 hour ride yesterday. Anywhere special?

Tony,

You encouraged me to try again.

Put the lock on without the wave washer this time and it works fine.

I ended up cutting the key, flattening the head with a hammer, thread it, put a stainless steel acorn nut on it (1/4 - 20), then drilled it for a split ring. Works like a charm.

Thats great...I couldn't remember what I did...but it was the washer for me too.
