O2 sensor question?
« on: March 12, 2008, 11:24:58 PM »

OK, this is for all you tech guys.
I was wondering about the reverberation effect or the lack of it with a TD exhaust. I have read that if you go with two into one it helps to alleviate this problem. Here is a thought I have, with the O2 sensors protruding into the exhaust pipes wouldn't this have an effect similar to putting a bolt thru the exhaust like some have referred to?
Would this have a negative effect on performance and should we eliminate this on a new Sert download and go with open loop system?

I would like to hear some thoughts or a technical explanation on this.

Thanks,
Tork

Tork, I don't think the nose of the sensor sticks as far into the pipe as you are thinking. I just took a look at both the stock NB sensor and the Bosch WB sensor and my estimation is that they protrude into the flow 3/8" to 1/2". A good bit of the length is still in the bung, not the pipe. The WB sensor is also a bit narrower than the stock sensor too.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Chief,
It was just a thought, I haven't done the actual look back on this but I thought it was intrudung more that you measured. The last time I had them out was when I changed over to RHTD's. Next time I will look at the length myself to confirm your findings.
Thanks again and if anyone else want to chime in, feel free.

Chief is correct, they don't stick into the exhuast flow much.  They really don't need to to do their job.

take a weld-on bung and screw the WB into it. the o2 is almost flush with the pipe.

I'll be able to get that exact picture this afternoon as I am helping a buddy prep his pipes for a set of bungs.
