King Tour pak backrest / Corbin Dual tour flame pattern seat
« on: November 20, 2011, 07:08:43 PM »

I have seen alot of pictures but opinions would be good. What backrest looks good on a king tour pak when you are using a Corbin \ flame pattern seat. I don't like the long armrest on the corbin backrest. Any suggestions from what type of Harley, Mustang etc looks good.

Are you coming to Corbin to have it custom made?  If so, be sure you let us know so we can possibly meet you there.....have lunch or whatever (it's pretty much an all day job).

Corbin makes three backrests that can go on the King Tour Pack.  The one that you mention (with the long arms) is the one that I use when I'm in the two up position. The arms on this backrest are longer than the OEM Ultra Classic backrest but it provides a lot of comfort for the passenger and a bit of added safety if they're of the type to fall asleep back there.  Click on this link for a picture of mine (this photo is taken at Corbin when the backrest and seat were being made).    http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=40248.msg642302#msg642302

The backrest with the shorter arms is similar to the stock OEM Ultra Classic backrest.  No picture of that one.

And then the tour pack pad that I use when I have my tour pack in the solo position (I've also used it in the two up position by just adding the pad that goes on the bottom half of the tour pack....just a sort of leather covered foam pad) that some have said they like better (and doesn't take up near the space of the big back rest) is this one.  Click this link and then scroll down to see the various pics....  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=40248.msg670869#msg670869

Note the two bolt holes on either side of the backrest pad (used to mount the full size King tour pack backrest).  There are several options here.  If you're going to always use this backrest pad, you could fill and paint.  You can also do what I do, when I have the backrest pad on, I use four stainless steel bolts and stainless capnuts with the capnuts on the outside.  You could also do that with chrome capnuts.  Because I switch that back and forth so often, I prefer the ss rather than chrome.

Another suggestion I'd make to anybody going with the flame stitch pattern is to follow suit behind Jon (Jonga on this forum).  He had them use two different shades of orange and sew a double row, making the pattern stand out a lot better....especially after the seat (and theads) get broke in and start to fade a bit.  It's nylon thread so it doesn't really "fade" in the traditional sense......maybe they're just getting a bit dirty (or picking up the blue dye from my levis, etc.).  Anyway, it was just a great idea that Jon came with and down the road and thosands of miles later, the seat on his bike looks better than the seat on my bike.  Click on this link and scroll down to view the pics....  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=40248.msg642447#msg642447

Good luck with your endavor.  I look forward to the others comments and suggestions. :2vrolijk_21:

I cannot find any pics of the Backrest with the short arms made by corbin or on their website. I also called Corbin and ask for the shorter arms and they would not modify their mold.
