Am I asking too much for my RG?
« on: March 12, 2008, 10:16:15 PM »

I have advertised this in the selling section and I haven't even received a comment. Maybe I am not being reasonable about the amount. Please help me if I am asking too much. Please say something! Good -Bad - Indifferent. I really think this is one of the best riding bikes for a bagger that I have ridden. I love the power and comfort. I just have too many toys and not enough time. I will probably want it back in about a week but I have agreed to get rid of her. I might get another later. I may have overpriced this bike because of how much I value it. I know some of you guys here share my passion.

I am selling a FLTRSEI2 for $14,500.  email radar6868@aol.com

62,655 miles The top was rebuilt by HD @ 25k with new SE Heads (didn't come with SE heads) and 10.5 high compression pistons and cam with compression release valves. Yes, it runs much better than it did from the factory. The mileage is not really as much as it first appears on the motor. Two seats-HD pillow and SE, heat shields, trunk rail, Saddlebag Guard Bag and Water Bottle Holder, inner primary cover, VH exhaust, LED brake and turn signals rear...
I think the pictures say the most so here goes. I will update with some new pics to show of some of the latest additions to the bike.

Strictly for comparison.  Last weekend I bought a red/red/red 2000 SERG that had dual pipes installed, a Stage I A/C and dl and not much else.  Pretty much bone stock otherwise.  Came complete with all the original exhaust, bike cover, backrest, etc etc etc.  Less than 20,000 miles.  Bike is very clean and presents very well.

Guy had been trying to sell it "six weeks or so" according to our discussion when I went to pick it up.  I don't know where he started but he ended up last Saturday selling it for $12.5.  Bike also came with brand new tires on it.

Thanks Twolanerider,
This is what I needed to know for a comparison. I may need to go down some and put new tires in the deal. I had already considered new shoes since it's nice to ride a new(used) bike for a while without spending money on tires right a way. My bike is very clean but the high mileage is a negative for this much money. Unless the right person wants one and that does happen sometimes.

The computer makes finding exactly what you want a lot easier than just 10 years ago. Is there a site that you or anyone here recommends for best results to make a sale?

Mileage is a huge variable, especially when it comes to how the bike has been ridden, maintained etc. Obviously a 7 year old car with this amount of mileage on it would be considered low mileage, BUT a 7 year old car would not be worth such a high % of the original price. So it comes down to finding the right buyer. Don't cave in on the price without some direct feedback from people who are interested in buying. Seems to me if I wanted the bike I'd be talking to you, asking questions, maybe giving you an impression that I'd buy at a little bit lower, or whatever. Maybe you need to change how you're selling the bike and encourage people to contact you with some a tag line about filling them in on the details of how the bike has been ridden and maitained or something.

just my $0.02.

Nice bike, fair price, unfortunately right now is a soft market.  Be patient, there is a buyer out there.

Thanks Twolanerider,

HW, I'd been casually looking for a red SERG for awhile now.  Basically since they were new but more realistically for the last couple of years.  Cycletrader and Craigslist and other online venues.  The large audience at eBay of course.  Using eBay as a guide the SERGs haven't been doing well price wise for awhile now.

Approaching nine model years old probably scares the unitiated off.  The slightly more initiated might be worried by it being a generation prior Marelli bike thinking they can't be or are difficult to service.  And, of course, the miles.

FWIW I thought the price I gave for mine was a steal.  Given it's condition and level of completeness I'd have gone $2k more.  That would have been about it though.  That's also in line with what I'd seen the market present for bikes I'd watched the last couple years or so.  Hope any of this is helpful.

I have been looking for an orange/black/white FLTRSEI/2. Personally I think that is a little high because of the mileage but the weather is warming up which means the market should be a little better. Somewhere in the $11-12k range would sell it quick i think.

Hogwander, I think you were just made an offer :huepfenlol2:

Kind of a low one.  But it did have aroma of an offer.

It seems to me that the market is soft for just about everything, I had my 2000 SERG ( Tri Red ) forsale for a while in my home town 16k miles w/ a few tasteful mods for 13,500, I did not even receive an insulting offer! But as mentioned somebody will want that bike & pay what you want.
