The Billy Lane mess thread is here under "Rider Down":

I didn't bother to post it but last week it was announced in the local papers that his original legal team claimed conflict of interest and backed out of the case.  He now has a new set of lawyers.

I figure he'll be riding a trike before all this is settled.

I haven't heard anything recent on this. Anybody know what's happening. I'm guessing his lawyers keep filing for continuences so as to put as much time between the crime and any attempt to extract some atonement for it. Anybody in Florida with an update ?

I stopped putting Lane updates on here out of disgust....on several levels.

I don't have links but here's the latest.  Lanes' lawyers called the blood samples into question and got the judge to let them (Lane's team) send the two blood samples to a lab in Colorado for re-testing.  That's right--Colorado.  That's where the Lane team insisted the re-testing be done.  The Judge then placed the condition that the two samples be sent seperately.  She (Judge Meryl Allawas) stated that she hoped to set a trial date for later this year.

Funny footnote is that Judge Meryl Allawas has been disciplined by the state of Florida for allowing excessive delays to trials.  Just the judge Lane's team wants.

Here are the links to the Supreme Court doc about the Judge and the news article from January:
