Had an interesting experience with the Springer today
« on: May 17, 2008, 10:39:34 PM »

Hey guys,

Great day for riding in the Ozarks of Arkansas. Put about 300 miles on her of which about 75 were interstate at about 75 miles per hour average. After I got off the freeway on the local streets, I noticed the engine ran vastly smoother--very little valve train noise (of which I was pretty concerned about). Sounded smooth as silk. I swear it has a lot more power too.

Is this natural through the break in process? I have a BMW R1200GS which folks say doesn't get to its peak running efficiency until about 5,000 miles on it. Well, it's true. Is it the same for Harly motors? If so, I'm even more pleased.

Thanks,

Happ

Sounds like the rockers have rubbed away enough clearance so they dont hit the side wall anymore!
I agree the motors need 5000miles b4 all is bedded in and motor runs to perfection

Mine has 2600 miles and I feel more power in the CUSE with 103 (being heavier) than in this one with 110.... :nixweiss:

Jorge,

The problem is aerodynamic drag. You are smiling too much on the Springer and creating too much drag with that big smile. ;D

If you wear a full face helmet you can still smile big, but the helmet is smoother and the drag will be less.
