NEW RADIO INSTALL on PUNKIN
« on: April 21, 2008, 06:24:44 AM »

Well after having a problem with the stock radio in Punkin, I went to the dealer. The price I was quoted was not that bad ($850.00 ). My parts guy told me about a company called Bike Tronics. I have been talking to them and Twolane for about a month now. Finally took the plunge. They took care of me and as of right now I am very happy. The kit contains a Sony 520 receiver, bike tronics retro radio kit and their amp along with their speakers. Bike tronics products carry a lifetime warranty. I also threw in the XM pod. The install took little or no time to do, AND IT SOUNDS GREAT!!!!! For anyone interested you can go to www.biketronics.com for more info.

Now I do have one question for those of you with XM radio. Where did you mount the antenna????? I have a problem with my inner fairing and need to make a repair tonight so the fairing will be off till Wednesday. I will be leaving here Wednesday on a longer trip to York. I hope to have everything working so all can see and hear.

Thanks in advance.

Mike, since I didn't use it I don't know how large the sony module you're needed to mount might be.  If it's small, however, the bracket that Harley adds for an XM antenna might work.  Circled in this photo.  It adds in by bolting to the vertical fairing support bracket.  Harley actually offers a right and left hand version of this so you could add mounting spaces for a couple of different small modules or devices.

Don you are the man. I am on the phone right now. That would be perfect. I was just wondering if it would work under the fairing. Looks like you answered my question.

See you in a few days.

If that does what you need it's a simple and cheap solution Mike.  After pulling the HK radio and its XM module out of mine I no longer had the antenna up there.  The sticky on the backside of my GDO xmitter wasn't holding well so the bracket is now the mounting point for my garage door opener transmitter :2vrolijk_21: .

Thanks guys. I am working OT tonight. So I did get the bracket and a few other things from the dealer this afternoon on the way in. When I get home tomorrow I need to get the fairing back on and the XM activated. I can't wait for the trip to York.

I will need to take some pics of the install. The ride to York was great to say the least. I love this radio. I mean I really love this radio. I have the XM hooked up and the sound is great.I still need to read the book and find out about all of the bells and whistles. But so far so good. I would like to thank the guys from Biketronics for a great product and getting it shipped to me on time for the trip.
