Dealer will not part exchange
« on: June 19, 2008, 05:05:28 PM »

i decided this week to part ex my 07 for an 08 cvo ultra, that is untill the dealer came back to me and said "sorry we dont want your bike" i asked are you joking a harley dealer wont give me a part exchange price? he said yes you can buy a new one for cash but we dont want yours. i just thought i would let any uk members know that Harley world in Chesterfield must be the worst dealer in the country and dont deserve any custom the way they treat people.i came from the goldwing lot to harleys and i am not impressed with the dealer treatment.is this normal and can anyone recomend a dealership to me.

Since we no longer speak the Queen's English over here in the US (yup -- we're mutts), I need a couple of clarifications:

"part exchange price" = trade in price (value) or partial trade price?
"custom" = consideration, business or attention?

The above being assumed to be true, the dealer is likely reacting to hard times and not wanting to have their cash put out on trades.  If they get new bikes, they don't actually pay for them to be there.  A trade, however, they own fully.  Your bike is pricey to them as far as outlay goes, and I suspect this is the case.

Aside from that, you will do better to sell on your own and use the amount towards the new one.  Downfall of selling your own is that if you must sell before getting the new scooter you may be without a bike for a while.  My bike was supposed to be delivered August 3 last year, and I sold mine the week before.  Then there were delays and I didn't receive the bike until October 13.  Missed some of the best riding days all for $500.00.

Best of luck to you!

when I was looking at trading my '07 FLHTCUSE2 for an '08 FLHTCUSE3 the trade difference was $10,000, and that was before tax title and conveyance fee...what a joke just to probably get the same problems that I have now...

Yes i was at about £10,000 to change for a 08 and its not that i cant afford it but i think a drop of £7000 on a 12 month old bike is a no go situation. The part ex deal i was trying to do was on a 2000 mile 08 ,so i cant understand why the dealer doesnt want to get rid of one second hand bike and get a cheaper one in plus a bit of cash.Anyway my bike is now polished up and ready to complete my summer trips and i look at it in my drive and think no way am i giving it away with all the extras i have put on it,i am quite happy to keep it.
