08 RD KING 110 NOISY ENGINE
« on: May 31, 2008, 01:18:37 AM »

I have a new RDKSE 110 since only one week  I am very concerned to read the many post about the top engine valves train sounds. I have the same problem and my bike has only 200 miles. I do not like it. My dealer says.......no problem, it's normal for this engine  :confused5:

sure I will ask other dealers about this noise. I've never been a similar noise with my softail Heritage 2004, so I am disappointed

It is probably just the valve springs making contact with the head covers.  Just tell your dealer that you want the bike checked for the valve spring clearencing issue which is a known problem with the 110s.  If the dealer comes back with something like, "We have never heard of that issue, and you shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet."  You should run, not walk, to another dealer.

Most HD service managers take classes at the Moto to be able to say "that's normal" without cracking a smile or changing facial expressions. It takes practice you know.  :huepfenlol2:  Also, they all say that you should not believe what you read on the internet, so going to another dealer is, well, worthless.

However, on the serious side, get the Syn3 oil out asap and replace with Mobil 1 or Amsoil, the motor will quite down about 50%. . . seriously!   Also, I replace the original push rods with adjustables. Just a start.
