More passenger room
« on: June 09, 2008, 09:48:52 AM »

My wife has not been happy with the passenger room on our 2008 SE Ultra.  She is not a big person, but our last bike was a 2002 Goldwing with more passenger space.  A couple of weeks ago on this site I asked for ideas on moving the tour pak.  Several people mentioned a kit from George Anderson.  I ordered it and installed it yesterday.  It works great.  It was easy to install and gives you a choice of 1.25 inches or 2.5 inches of added space as you are installing it.  I set it up for the 2.5 inches and my wife is very happy with it.

I did not have to cut and extend any wires, just stretch them out a bit.  The kit works as advertised.

Thanks to all who suggested this kit from George Anderson.

I do not know how to post multiple pix, so only the last one got posted.  Here is another.  You can see the plate that is used to move the tour pak back.

Hey Bob, How did you move the bottom of the backrest pad forward to hide the newly created gap from the seat?  The 07's (which I have is different and will leave a large gap over the end of the seat).  Right now, on the 07's the bottom of the TP and the back of the seat are in a vertical line.

|On my 08, the flap that hangs down from the passenger seat is hooked at the top and just hangs down.  If it needed it, I would make a strap with velcro to hold it in place on the bottom, but it does not appear to need it on my 08.

Nice looking Ultra Bob!  Since you installed the passenger grab rails, why did you keep the strap?  I ordered the grab rail with handles the other day off of EBay and will install it and plan on removing the strap.  Did you have to move the tour pack back a little for installation?  Some say yes, some say no.

My wife wanted the grab rails.  I sometimes tuck files and things under a strap if I am alone on the bike.  The strap was not in the way so I left it.

The grab rails went on without any trouble. I was prepared to fight with them because I had read where they might need to be ground down or wedged or whatever to clear the speakers.  I had no problems putting them on.

Just had my 1000 mile check up yesterday (June 12).  No problems.  It runs great and is a lot of fun.
