Dyno and Gas Quality?
« on: May 31, 2008, 10:03:39 AM »

Hello
Okay I broke down and ordered the true duals and Sert, Now I am wondering when I go in to have the bike Dynoed witch fuel octane I should use?  The Bike currently pings alot on acceleration using 92 octane. If I fill up with reg 89 will the dyno tune adjust the timeing so that I will not ping with the lower octane gas. I would then switch back to premium.
  I just be curious

Check this thread and see if the info makes sense;

I haven't heard any pinging/detonation and I know it is not a good thing :soapbox:

I believe the MoCo recommends no less then 91 octane. I wouldn't think of burning anything other then the highest octane I could get at anytime.

I'm with Gary on this.  I never burn anything other than premium unleaded.   The bikes are not designed to run on regular unleaded.  About the only way I would use regular would be in an extreme emergency and then I'd use an octane boost with it.

I would run the recommended 91 octane.  If you are using a dealer, insist on a discussion with the actual person doing the dyno tune and specify what you're looking for, such as good cruise fuel economy, no detonation, etc.  If he is any good, he will know exactly what you're talking about.  If all he seems to understand is maximum hp & torque numbers, take a pass and find someone else.
