07 street glide running rough
« on: May 23, 2008, 04:55:48 PM »

I have an 07 street glide with the Harley stage 1 race tune, Slip on mufflers and airfilter on it. I also changed the heads pistons and cams and now the stock 96" motor is a 103. All of the changes were done at the time I purchased the bike and it was put on the Dino and tuned before delivery. The bike has close to 5000 miles on it.  This year it is running like crap. back fires on deceleration poor fuel economy and has that unburned gas smell. I did use fuel stabilizer and stored it with a full tank of gas and I have about 500 miles on it this year. My question is do I return it to the dealer that will be limited in the changes they make due to emissions restrictions or am I better off going to a private mechanic who may have more options ? Are there more options with the factory race tune ? The bike is under warranty and would be cheaper to fix at the dealer but I am more concerned with getting it running correctly. The bike seems to have the same power that it has always had just running rougher than before and a more pronounced unburned gas smell then before. Any ideas on what the problem may be would be appreciated, Thanks

Try a new set of sparkplugs first.

ultramellon, you should never use stabilizer in your fuel. though that is probably not the problem.  if it ran good last year but not this year try this, bg 44k injector cleaner (about 3 oz.) the 06 and later 25deg. injectors are very fine and prone to cloging,  jmo and worth a try.   axil

Can you explain more what the harm is w/using stabilizer. :confused5: I don't normally use it, but a year ago when I had my hip replaced and I knew there would be several months before I would ride again I did use some (MoCo brand). Directions state you put it in w/a fresh tank of gas let it run thru the system some to do its thing and it doesn't require draining the tank when you do begin to ride again.
