I noticed a rather strange phenomena when riding the new to me '06 cvo ultra.  I have been riding a street glide for about a year and a road king before that.  With both the rk and the sg when leaning into a turn the bike just kind of goes around the turn and I really didn't put much input into the handlebars.  Now, with this ultra I have noticed that during a turn the bike feels like it wants to "turn" and I actually have to put a little bit of force on the bars to keep it from turning sharper than I intend.  Hard to describe, kind of like the weight of the front end is pulling the front end into the turn.  I have never noticed this on any other bike, and I am wandering if it is just riding style.  I have also never had such a large bike and never one with a tour pack.  I do ride 2-up and always have and still never noticed this before.  it certainly is different than anything I've ridden before.  The ride sure is comfy!!!!

Hi Jbbrown73,
Some of the feeling could be due to the adjustment of the steering neck bearings. But also due to the increased weight of the Ultra front end vs. the other bikes you rode. Ultra has added CB,XM antenna and equipment and other stuff under the fairing to add to the steering weight. Then the Ultra is more top heavy in general due to Tourpak.

This video is great training for handling any bike in general but especially large Harleys.

Well I checked the air in the rear shocks since it seemed too bouncy.  Of course, there was 0 air in them.  I pumped up to 30 and that seemed to fix it.  Between that big leather tour pack and my fat a$$, with no air in the shocks it had the weight distribution all messed up.  Anyway, it rides perfect.  My wife loves it, she really enjoyed riding it, very comfortable.  We rode on about a 150 mile poker run yesterday and it was just fantastic.  No fatigue or pain at all at the end of the day.  We were both ready to do another 150, but the bad weather was coming.  We got into some twisty roads and I am amazed how well that big bike handles.

Definitely a higher center of gravity on the Ultra which makes slow speed maneuvers more challenging

Thanks VaEagle for the link. Yesterday I rode over to the MSF course with a friend that is planning to take the driving test this week to get his license. The figure 8 on a Ulta Classic is not an easy task! After a few tries I could do the first half but never did get the whole 8. I guess I turn left better than right. Maybe I should of taken up NASCAR! Anyway, I went ahead and sprung for the DVD. I figured it wouldn't hurt to learn some more after my feeble attempt.

Happy you found the problem with no air in the rear shocks.  Check regularly for a while until you know there isn't a leak.
