If you our on the road and you need oil for the engine ONLY and cant find a HD dealer. The manual said you can you use oil certified for diesel engines.

Acceptable diesel engine oil designations, CF-4, CG-4, CH-4 CI-1 and preferred viscostities 20W50, 15W50 and 10W40

They would prefer you add HD360 before Diesel oil

Am I mistaken, or are the CVO bikes not running SYN 3 out of the factory?
At least mine do. And if you can't get SYN 3, any 100% synthetic oil will do (for the engine).

You are correct sir!!!  The CVOs have SYN3 in them from the factory.  The wording in the manual, is the standard wording for the big twin engines.  You can, supposedly in an emergency, mix dino oil with the Syn3, but they recommend you drain and change the oil at the first possible chance.  But I agree, synthetic oils are available just about everywhere and a good 20W50 synthetic would fit the bill very well.

Yes. Syn 3 is a full synthetic lubricant.
