great to see they're wasting R&D cycles on this, while the 110" issues just hang out there unaddressed (as yet)

what an abomination.  Sure, it's fun for the first hour or so.  Then what?

not my cup of coffee, tea, or whatever.  For non-traditional "thrills" with HD stenciled on the side, I'll stick with the V-rod.  :jalapeno:

OK off my  :soapbox: now

OK
Had breakfast with the neighbor who owns a BRP Spider this morning.

1st off, he's had some issues with his FLHX and has been dealer shopping for someone to fix it the way he expects (sound familiar)

Next, he had been riding the Spider all the time when he first bought it and missed riding the H-D

Thirdly and this is the important part, he said if you are expecting a motorcycle like experience on the Spider you will be greatly disappointed. He said it handles more like a car. He enjoys the acceleration and the openess of it, but it is not a motorcycle  - - - period.

Neither is it like a sports car. It still has a lot of motorcycle like features so it's niether one nor the other. Unique. I asked him about high speed lane changes and he said he hadn't had any problems. He seemed perplexed what I meant by it. According to him it's no different than whipping your car around abeit that you've got handlebars vice a steering wheel. Also he mentioned that the jockey style riding position gets old fast if you're not young and have good knees.

I asked him if he had it do over again would he have bought one and his response was somewhat evasive. He talked about the fact that it is an attention getter and everyone comes up and asks questions wherever he goes etc etc but he didn't directly answer my question. My take is he would not buy one if given the chance to do it over again, but has not had it long enough to bail and sell without getting razzed by his buddies (me included)

As motorcycle enthusiasts, I think any of us would enjoy playing around with one for a day or so. But would we use one on a regular basis if we bought it ?  My answer is no. SO my bottom line opinion is these are rich guys toys, a novelty that wears off soon and ends up gathering dust in the garage for the most part.

I have ridden allot of different bikes, I have ridden thousands of miles on a trike, I have had a number of sport car's and I am here to say the spider is not like any of those. It is very similar to riding a quad. When you steer it quick to either side it has a very odd lift to it like it wants to send you the driver in the opposite direction. Very unsettling but you would probably get used to it.  It does get a lot of attention but that's not my thing. I think H.D. is going the right direction with the leaning if they want to stay with the dual front tires. I think the reason behind that is cost will be less than independent dual suspension in the rear , power loss with rear wheel drive and a certain reduction in weight.

BB

I read your post to Nancy.
We both agree 100% with you on the Spyder.
I had a 177 H/P Hayabusa that bothered my knees and I didn't like the jockey riding style.
So I sold the 177 H/P bike and bought a 77 H/P bike in the Lowrider. That was in December of 02.
Now 6 years later, I still enjoy the riding the Lowrider almost as much as Nancy does.
I agree with you on the Spyder that from a practical fun standpoint the Spyder comes up short against most bikes I would want.
