performance upgrades
« on: November 27, 2008, 01:56:03 PM »

Hello everyone,

I have been reading the CVO sight for the past while and i find many different opinions on performace upgrades. I just purchased a 2009 CVO  ultra( Autum Haze/Orange) which will be ready for pick up sometime in December; can't wait for the freaking snow to melt here in Toronto. My last bike was a 2006 RK Classic and it had over 102 H.P. so i am used to lots of power and i am afraid the 110 CVO will be okay but not great. My dealer thinks i should start with K&N high flow filter (fits behind the h-d cover so it's not noticable), H-D super tuner and just slip ons as he thinks the new(coming out shortly) true duals from V&H or Reinhart will not increase performance but in fact might take some away. He says the new H-D system has improved and that taking away the crossover is a negative. (he also suggested changing my flywheel  and go to a 58mm throttle body). Those 2 items I surely won't do right now but does anyone have any thoughts about the first part?

Well, this is in the wrong section, but stock 110 puts out about 78hp.  Performing a stage 1 with a super tuner canned map will give you about 9 more hp (87) depending on slip-ons.  The 110 is a torque monster and will feel good.  Not sure how it will compare to your previous scoot.   The stock exhaust is a 2 into 1 and is hard to beat unless you find another 2 into 1 to replace it.  The flow out both sides is almost even.  Taking it to the Dyno will net you a few more hp (4 or so).  You are going to have to crack the case to get any more out of it.

Spazz,

Haven't dyno'd this 110 yet, kind of half waiting for a true dual to see what it looks like vs. the 2 into 1's.

Your dealer has the right idea, only not a fan of the Super Sert, I will go with the Master Tune.   It is not a fly wheel it is a larger butterfly and injectors if you go with the 58mm over the stock 50 you have on the throttlebody.   If you remove the Catalytic Converters the pipes will be more free flowing so a simple change of just the slip-ons and not the CC really will not really help.   That leaves you the choice then of something like slip ons, changing the baffles like a Full Sac Conversion, or true duals or another 2 into 1.   The 2 into 1 is going to give you the best numbers down low and mid.

I would definitely open up the air breather with a K&N or other filter (just not harley), although the extended filters I have not had good luck with, they seem to break the studs they sit on or break apart at the center nut that holds the air cleaner on.

I don't know that I consider changing a cam as cracking the cases typically to me that means opening up the bottom end  :nixweiss:.   I think you could talk to Silver Black since he has done pretty much all but the larger throttlebody based on his posts and seems pretty pleased with his bike.

In the past I had pretty good numbers out of the 110 with Rinehart true duals, open air breather, tune, and Freedom YB14SEC-07 cam.   116/104.   My reaosn for change was I wanted more down low vs. 3000 up.
