Lucas MC OIL
« on: July 07, 2008, 09:08:37 AM »

Anyone using or tried Lucas High Performance Motorcycle Oil? I have talked to a couple of people that are using it and said that results are good, helped cool the motor down somewhat.

There is a motor oil test rating floating on this from somewhere. I read it a few months ago and noticed that Lucas Motor Oil was near bottom of the list, meaning the oil flunked all test. Amsoil was on top and Mobil 1 was running No. 2. Syn 3 was better then Lucas. If i recall, Lucas started to break down in low levels of heat and had no searing factor.. Not Good.. I wouldn't touch it, at least in a V-Twin.

Not sure on how Lucas performs. After break in on my '05 FLSTC w/103" I tried Royal Purple. Their ad claims minimum 20 degree drop in temps. I did not see that. Switched back to Amsoil after. My '08 SE R.King 110" came with Syn3 oil from the factory. Not impressed with the engine. Seems to use oil all the time. Also had the head gastkets done at 1600 miles.  :nixweiss:

Thanks for the replies, Two of the people that told me about lucas run it in their drag bikes, but they may be changing oil every runs or so. my bike came with Syn3 as well, a the 1,000 i changed to H-D oil, kept H-D oil in it at 5,000 mile service, then it started smoking out the left side (rear cylinder) and used 1/2 qt. or so, i had the 10,000 mile service done at 8,800 miles went back to Syn3, have about 2500 miles on this service, No more smoking and has not used any oil.

Is the Amsoil or Mobil you are using Syn. or reg. oil?

Amsoil and Mobil (the ones we are using in our bikes) are both synthetic.

Spydglide, Think i going to leave the Syn3 in it at least for now, at least until it starts smoking or using oil, If something happens to the motor at least thats one thing MoCO can't come back on as a excuse to void warranty. Knock on wood only problem i've had with bike is the cruise control.

They can't void your warranty as long as you use the correct grade of oil, or if they can prove something you added caused a failure. Syn3 is better than dino oil, but not near as good as Mobil1 or Amsoil. Funny HD use to say not to use syn oils, now they sell it!!
