oh boy, that would be a suckee place to have a cheap part fail for a little rub

yep - all kinds of bad things could happen...side load on the valve guide causing premature wear... break the retainer and drop the valve... ect...

Time for a little mental comparison.  Which cams are you running?  That same CycleRama product Howie has?

Sorry for my ignorance regarding this matter, but how does one know if his bike needs some work done under warranty?
I'm not in the US, and dealers here tend to turn a blind eye on these matters.

Went to the Harley website: https://www.harley-davidson.com/EX/MNT/SCHK/en/ServiceCheckup.asp, put my VIN # and got no special messages about anything regarding warranty work.

An example, reading the *.pdf file attached to reply #2 ......."As of March 03, 2008, all 110 CI engines will be assembled with a new graphite head gasket."; my FXSTSSE2 2008 arrived to Europe in January 08. I guess this means that my engine has the old type gaskets ASO.....

SO my question is, where do I have to go to find out what has to be done to my bike?...if anything.

I have metal headgaskets that I can clearly see (as I look down there at least once a week checking for a leak) and I am pretty sure I'm having issues with my rear ACR, but before I ask for my dealers help I prefer to be sure and even do the job myself.

What's the next step to take? Please enlighten my narrow mind  :-\ because I'm getting rather  :soapbox: (pi$$ed off) with this whole matter.

FYI... We in Europe pay US $ 51.000 for an FXSTSSE2 08, so if you think you have a problem with your CVO, just think a little bit on how we feel here...

Thanks for all your help; what would I do if I didn't "espeek a litel eengrish"

Good morning Spanish Flyer

My advise (if your bike ride):
Now it's the riding season !
Ride and have fun !
If your bike had a leak, it'll not stop on the road.
At the end of the season, look if your leak is arrived and you put the bike to the dealer.
He made all changements in same time.

My experience, the last year with my '07 :
Leak arrived in June, put the bike immediately to the dealer.
Result : no bike in July, August and the begenning of September.
With my '08, I'll wait the end of the season.

Thanks Jacques (bisounours) ;)
I agree with you that it would be very silly to leave the bike before the summer ends, but what I'm searching for is the recognition from H-D that "MY" bike will need some or all the work done, shown in that official document TT370, because this document only says that from a certain date onwards, the new bikes will come with this or that mod, no mention about what will happen with older models. It would be nice to be able to talk with the dealer that sold you the bike and have them get all the material needed for the modification and agree on a date that suits both so the work is done in the minimum possible time. Right now I only have my VIN number....

One other thing, Where I live I normally ride my bike all through the year, so basically there is no good time to be left without a bike :-*

Thanks for your comments Jacques, keep in touch  :2vrolijk_21:

I purchased an FXSTSSE 2 Screaming Eagle Springer Softail with the 110 .. manufacturing date of very late May/ early June. In I discovered that I had the heat management system installed and operating (not according tho the manual). I called the factory and they said NO I did not. I then started searching for a logical reason for my rear cylinder was shutting down when hot. My dealer was great and they steadfastly stuck to the fact that it was in fact the heat management system. They were right the MCO called me back and acknowledged that they had just started adding that to the softail’s which I am assuming is to minimize the head gasket problem as well. As far as the bike goes so far so good I am up to 1000 miles it runs great with just a slight valve train noise that I am not use to but over all very strong and nice to drive. I just hope it will stay together for a while.

Spanish Flyer,

Harley does not have an upgrade program to swap out parts that have been changed. If they need to address a serious problem, like the 110 leaks, they will sometimes institute a parts program which will notify you to bring your bike in to receive updated parts. We are anxiously waiting for one of those letters now, but so far, nothing.

If you have a specific failure, take it to your dealer and if indeed you need work done, they will fix it and use the newest available parts. But, this is only in the case of a failure, not just because they have redesigned parts that now supercede the old ones.

Thanks a lot Chief,
That's exacly what I was concerned about and you have bluntly put it clear; right now we have to wait for H-D to make a move. Problem is as you must have guessed, who will be careless enough to go on a long trip with a CVO??

This sounds like "ABANDON THE SHIP, BUT ONE BY ONE. WE WILL CALL YOU ONE AT A TIME".

I can seriously tell you that I never expected such a performance from a CVO supplier....

It is in a way quite handy that I expect my new bike to arrive in October... Another CVO? you must be joking, it is the new V-MAX 2009..... Still, I want to keep my CVO if it is worth it  :confused5: :confused5: :confused5:

SF,

There's not one issue with the CVOs that would have me thinking twice about starting out on a long trip. My bike has been weeping / seeping oil for over 10,000 miles and I'd still jump on it this afternoon and head out if I had a trip planned. All of the problems, save the REALLY bad cranks, are more annoyances than show-stopping problems.

If something comes up, get it fixed. Otherwise, go riding and enjoy the day.

Thanks again Chief,

There is no doubt I love my CVO and will keep it forever if I can afford it. Still, the crank problems some have had, the ACR's burning and so on don't make our bike the most reliable on Earth.... Still, I trust H-D and what is worse, I cannot find a replacement for my Springer HARLEY....

And H-D knows about our weakness  :-\

Never kissed a bike..... Ok leave it at that.....
