Newbie Fatboy Owner
« on: July 01, 2008, 11:30:55 AM »

Wassup Yall just purchased a 2006 Fatboy with 3000 miles previous owner installed Arlen Ness Flame Mirrors, V&H Big Radious Exaust, Factory Download, 1 3/4 Drag Bars, Oil Pressure Gauge, LED Tailight, Projector Headlight with clear Driving Lamps.  I've installed 200 LED lights around the bike to light it up at night....  But ready to get off in to the fun stuff more Power.   My previous 2000 Fatboy had a 95 c.i. kit with some goodies that laid down about 115 rwhp, sold it and bought a SE V-Rod but its just not the bike for me so i'm back at my roots the FATBOY with hopefully lil more potential than my previous one.

Mods looking to get started with is SE Heavy Breather, SERT, Cam???, TB?? and a good dyno tune like to make around 120-125 rwhp.  Yall help me out not to familiar with the Fuel Injected stuff....

Bad Apple,

Welcome to the site mate theres plenty to read & learn here. Sounds like your 95incher must have had quite a few goodies to make 115rwhp. Cause it stills takes a whole heap of goodies to get the 103 to 120 -125rwhp.
eg: high comp pistons, new heads or some serious $ spent on the stock ones, cams & gear drive, lifters, good set of push rods, possibly roller rockers, feuling oil pump, relief spring shim, timken main bearing conversion, 50-54mm throttle body & manifold.

Thats just what comes to mind & dont even consider the 'SERT' go straight to a 'Wide Band Closed Loop ThunderMax' complete engine management system with auto tune.

Cheers

Yeah my Ol Fatboy had alot of motor work done to it.. It was a beast for a lil 95 c.i. motor but I had to run a lil 110 oct. which got old after a while buying that mess.  I been looking at Zippers cams and couple more people, like to try to be around 120 rwhp and still be reliable on 93 oct. which I believe the 103 c.i. can handle.

Yeah don't they have a Zippers self tuning system to, as well as the ThunderMax.

EASIEST WAY TO GET 120HP OUT OF A "B" MOTOR IS TAKE IT OUT AND REPLACE WITH A JIMS 120.  THEN, SELL YOUR 103 AND YOU WILL BE AHEAD IN THE DOLLARS AND RELIABILITY DEPARTMENT BY A GOOD BIT FROM TRYING TO BUILD A 103.  BEEN THERE TOO MAY TIMES AND THIS IS THE BEST SOLUTION FOR MORE HORSEPOWER.  WELCOME TO THE FORUM !!

Hi, and welcome.

I am one of those who have been there "too many times for the "quest for 125hp/125tq. I wish I knew then what I know now, and that's not too much in the reality department. But I would have slammed a Jim's 120 or the Jim's 124 in my SE FatBoy in a heartbeat, and saved myself $1000's of dollars, hundreds of hours in down time or stuck in 1 of 5 shops in CA.,  saved $100's more avoiding the Dyno Tuners cash register, etc....

But I can say that you possess one of mankinds finest motorcycles ever built. Congrats on you purchase.

Everyone listen to Kona76 as I had forgotten his quest for more juice and all the problems getting there.  Since 2001 I guess I have spent $60K trying to make an 88 and a 103 something they will never be.  Looking back I sure wish I had six new Jims motors sitting in front of me instead of $60K in receipts and disappointment.  Just pop them in and they are instant haul-ass machines that are reliable and run on pump gas.

But, it never ends as Jims is now making a "big-bore kit" for the 120's to take them to 131's.  Yeah, I got a couple ordered and its just 10-15 more HP but isn't that what its all about.  Anybody need a couple of new 103B motors?????

The nightmare may have finally stopped for my SE FatBoy. It has been a couple of months now; I have been taking my sweet time breaking her in again (4 top end and 1 complete rebuilds) and I have just approached the 1000 mile marker. She runs like long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs; a real Screamin' Eagle, and I am quite pleased with the results. However, I have an ongoing fear of the Dyno results...You may ask why? Logically, if I am pleased with the final results from the ass to street dyno, and she pulls less than expected, it could only confirm how stupid I have become for purchasing and paying out tens of thousands of dollars to scores of suppliers, 6 dealers and 3 performance shops.....when I should have gone to the Jim's 120/124 solution. In fact, and this is only because I can, I'm still thinking about it.

But for now, and at this very time and day, the lady scream's for me.

IMHO...anybody who wants 10-15 HP more from a Jim's 120, takes a big bore kit and upgrades..... well, you're my Hero. And that is what it is all about. I might need one of those 103's to hold down my receipts.  :zroflmao:

So netting around 110 rwhp maybe hair more is lil more reliable for the ol 103c.i.   haha My dad has a 124 ci on his Electric Glide Fatbagger, and a 126 ci on his Bourget.  I just wanted to be a lil smartass and try to get my lil ol 103ci. to hang with his bikes.    Not lookin to buy a whole new motor yet.... Jim will be the man for that job.  Just tryin to squeeze some juice out of the 103 what should I look to get out of that motor??

110/110 WOULD BE GREAT WITH REASONABLE RELIABILITY.  AFTER THAT YOU LOOSE RELIABILITY IN MY OPINION.  BEEN THERE AT LEAST A HALF DOZEN TIMES.
