How few in your group is needed to stop?
« on: July 26, 2008, 09:38:44 PM »

This thought came to me riding back from the Carlisle Show when our group passed by 2 broken down Bikers.

If I was by myself or with another (just one) rider,   I would have stopped.

I was in the back of a group of 9 bikes and we rode by......without an attempt to stop,

So I wanted to know how many (how few) in a group of bikes would you still stop?

We had a 3 hour ride with 9 bikes and we did not stop.

What is the criteria (or should be) to stop and Help?

I stop for broke down bikes, and cages. Sure there could be undesirables awaiting you in todays world, but, hell, most citezen would think my intentions were other then helping, before the meet, they would have parable crossed the street to be clear of me. 20 years ago , I know they would have. but, by the time I offer and preform the help need (if possable) they sometimes view bikers in a different way........... the way it should be!!!!! and if not just helping another in need is good enough for me. KARMA does have a way of catching up with you . and this does not just apply to people broke down, this applies in any help situation. that is my opinion of the subject, always has been, always will be!!!

Very admirable twincam :)

As you noted, watch out for the scams. My last attempt to help a car was two guys trying to get fifty bucks. I asked where they were going and calculated the fuel needed, escorted them to the station and bought twenty dollars worth of gas.  8)

I stop and help bikers everytime. One time on a trip south in my truck i stopped  to help a biker stranded on 99 and ended up fetching a trailer from a dealer in Bakersfield to get the guys bike back to the dealer. Spent about an hour and half helping out. Chit, i wasn't even offered gas money.. but what the hell,, i helped someone in need. I believe in Karma,, what goes around comes around, hopefully someday I'll get a return favor.

I stop for bikers - especially if there are no other bikers with them.

I will stop for cagers sometimes - almost always if it is a lady or old person.

Usually we stop.  Usually by the time we do, they have called somebody on their cell phone.  Occasionally we have a tool that is needed or we will ride ahead to a better cell signal area to call for help.

I've always stopped for broke down bikers on the road. But last year I had my share of time on the side of the road. First time in awhile for me. But I got a good dose of reality. It takes a long time for someone to stop to help ya these days. WTF were youze guys? ;)

It is the decision of the leader of the group. The Road Captain is always right. And at a time where everyone has a mobile phone, calling for help is not very difficult if you have problems on the road. Having said this, the circumstances must be taken into consideration. You can't stop twenty bikes without creating a commotion yourselves. So it depends on the road, the traffic, the weather, was it an accident or are they out of gas, is this a populated area or not, etc. etc.
In general I'd say: YOU HAVE TO STOP. And I always do.

Ride safely,
Louis

I think you have rather large B_lls to even admit you did not stop or atleast slow down to see if they needed help.   ???

It doesn't matter how many I'm with, I stop. I'm a grown man I can find my way home if no one else wants to stop. Now with that said I stop for a single bike only. If there are two, they have a bud there already.

On my way to the Smoke Out last month I stopped for a single bike who blew an oil line. I ran to the nearest town, searched for an auto parts store and picked him up some line and oil. Brothers for brothers.
