Organizer in Upper Tour Pack Lid
« on: July 16, 2008, 01:37:56 PM »

Without overloading my organizer in my tour pack I cannot find any adhesive that will hold that silly thing in place. Does anyone know of a good adhesive that will work and hold that organizer in place???  :nixweiss:

3m makes a double sided adhesive for body side moldings, You can find at most automotive part stores. Remove and clean underside of lid with rubbing alcohol, Layer the strips of 3m on backside of organizer and put in place and firmly press on organizer. I would have another person help holding the lid off of the strap to lighten the stress on the lid fully open. I did this to my last two and worked great

Thanks Mr D as I am having the same problem even with not much weight in it.  Major PIA.  Wouldn't get again unless I ran my tour pack luggage rack bolts thru it.

If you have a luggage rack, run the luggage rack bolts through the tour pack lid organizer, using larger flat washers.....it does the trick.  And mine is loaded all the time.

I don't use two side tape or any other kind of direct adhesive.  Don't remember the spec for it but there's some nuclear capable velcro.  The sticky on the back of it is STOUT.  Never had it sag with even a well stuffed organizer.

The Velcro side also holds anything you're likely to ever stuff in an organizer.  I like the velcro approach just for the "what if" flexibility.  Those spoiler lights are going to fail someday.  Not having the wire stuck behind or even directly against the organizer will make the task easier.

I've used "GOOP" in the last 3 bikes.  Never came apart no matter how heavy the load was.

I ran the luggage rack bolts through the organizer with some fender washers. That solved the tape problem.

 :nixweiss: :nervous:
Desertbear54:  I share your feelings concerning the organizer for the trunk lid.  I have the FLHTCUSE3 and the inside of the travel pack is lined with a preformed liner.  Problem is it is held in place with velcro and the heat has softened the adhesive.  Another problem is, the GPS and XM radio antenna is a big and heavy unit that is held in place on the lid with some two-sided tape and the heat has all but melted the tape.  I am going to take the advice given earlier and use some 3M body molding tape to tape it in place.   In trying to remove the organizer bag if mounted with epoxy, use a heat gun very gently to soften the epoxy.  I had a golf shop  for many years and replaced thousands of golf shafts.  They are held in place with epoxy.  A heat gun is the only way to soften the epoxy so you can remove the organizer without damaging it.  Just take it slow so as to not melt the material the organizer is made of.  I would hold the heat gun at last 6 inches away from the material and keep the gun moving all the time, or you might damage the paint on the lid.

Hope this helps you.
