I just picked up a 2008 FLHTCUSE3 on Monday.  I have 2 inquiries/ problems

1. My legs are about an inch to short to stand flat footed at stops.  Should I have it lowered or change the seat?  I had an 07 Road Glide w/ a Corbin Classic Solo and it was perfect.  I think because the Corbin was not as wide or thick as stock.  Any pics of seat changes would be great.

2.  I can't decide whether to change the exhaust or not.  I love being able to hear the stereo at 80MPH.  My RG with vance/hines true duals were a bit to loud even with the Hogtunes Amp setup.  Any thoughts on quieter ( I am getting old) exhaust or can I put a high flow and Race tuner with the stock pipes to increase performance/ lower heat?  Does putting a race tuner/ flow kit with stock pipes make any sense?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Sting

Lower it and change the seat  :2vrolijk_21:

You have to change the exhaust...... I think it is some kind of a rule. 8)  It will help cool the motor down if you change the exhaust, ac, and add a SERT with dyno tune.

It's only money....... you can always make some more, right? ;)

I put on Bub 7 slip ons and they're kinda loud to me, but I have no problem hearing the radio at any speed. I think I'm gonna send out my stock ones and get them recored with relatively quiet baffles. I may try and just knock the cat out and see how they sound first. I prefer the look of the stock over any aftermarket.

Everybody I've talked to lately say the CVO motors need a 4 inch muffler.  I've had a renowned bike builder here in the NW, Mike Stegman tell me that they are getting good results out of the stepped header and 4 inch muffler from Hard-Krome with the reduced sound system.

You should definitely change the seat, if you miss an inch when stopped, you'll be in all kinds of trouble when parking or maneuvering at low speeds. The bike is too heavy to hold up, if you have no firm ground and it starts leaning, specifically with a BSR and luggage. Just my 5 cents.

I can't help confuse you with the height/footing, but I have the same bike and though I can flat foot it, just stepping on a few round pebbles at a stop can raise the pucker factor a few degrees. Make it comfortable for safety's sake, besides have you ever seen someone on their tippytoes? looks silly. As for the mufflers, I couldn't wait to get rid of the stockers. To me it sounded like a cross between a Volkswagon and a Singer sewing machine. There's plenty of choices out there for sound and performance and more and more vendors are offering a "lower noise" version of their classic tubes. Some of our local lunch stops are actually "arming" the local POs with sound meters and won't hesitate to write "courthouse invitations" if your ride violates their local noise ordinances. It's funny because in the summer these 2 towns in particular take in probably around 60% or more of their revenues from all the 2 wheelers that spend their time and money there. I now only go to New Hope when I get a Mounds flavored Ice cream jones.

I put on the H-D front & rear lowering kits and wouldn't be without them!  Love being able to be flat footed.

I also put on V&H true duals, but left the stock pipes on so I could hear the music.  The true duals do a world of good at cooling things down.

Good luck!

Sting,

I sent a link of this to a friend of mine that just bought an 08 about 3-4 weeks ago. He has logged about 2500 miles already and has tried a lot of variables as far as heat mainly. He has some good insight on this year model bike. Hopefully he will chime in here by Monday. He may not check his email until then.

Check out "Best Way to Lower a Screamin' Eagle Ultra Classic Electra Glide (FLHTCUSE3)?" at http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=22829.msg367158#msg367158

The Traxxion and Bitubo are not cheap, but that was the option I chose.  I could only touch on the balls of my feet, and if there was any ridge I was on tip toes.  I am now almost flat footed and can maneuver the bike much easier too.

I tried a Corbin seat to lower my 1998 Road Glide and always hated the feel of the seat.  The seat only gained me at most 1/4 to 1/2 inch of height and gave me saddle sores on long rides.

You absolutely can change the air cleaner and retune your bike with stock exhaust.  You may gain a little in performance but will gain a lot in a cooler running engine.  One inexpensive to richen the air flow is to add xIED's to the bike which plug in line with the O2 sensors.  it's a 5 minute install.

I'd lower mine for safety reasons also.

Sting

I installed Rineharts.  I love the how they quiet down when I cruise but when I want to hear my bike all I have to do is roll the throttle.  I have hogtunes and I have to turn down the radio at crusing speeds 65-70.

I installed heated Corbin seat took a while to break it in but now I really like it.
