Hello!  I am new to the forum and have some tuning and heat issues with my new '08 Ultra Classic.  It is equipped with the following:

-Vance & Hines True Duals with Wide Oval Slip ons
-1690 (103 CI) SE Stage 2, Black
-SE Big Suck Breather Element
-Roller Bearing Upgrade
-255 Cams
-SE Pro Super Tuner

The engine has 1,500 miles runs extremely hot.   Goes into say "parade mode" in stop and go traffic with the rear cylinder shutdown.

Rossmyer's HD in Ormond Beach has the SERT Map # 202UH003-000 Downloaded into the SERT and cannot provide much help, if any at all.  Says that is the map to tune with.

I live on St. Simons Island, GA andf the Golden Isles HD Dealer is a wash-up, too.

Not looking for any freebies, just some qualified help and it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Glenn (aka BossHawg)

I'm am no pro but I had a set up similar and I think the 255 cams are wrong . Hoist would know more about it but that setup seams to need a deferant cam. I think if I remember right we used a wood cam equal to a SE203 and got around 100.5 HP and 117FTLB torque mass low end ran cool.

From two years of listening / asking on this site and the owner of a HD110 Smoker, I believe that the SE255 cams are a major contributor to the heat issue.  Another member had an identical bike, changed cams, and ran 40 degrees cooler than mine on the same ride.

Just my 2 cents. I'm by no means an expert here. I talk about things I have experience with. I'll tell what i like and hate and don't sugarcoat nuthin! The bike will run cooler by freeing up the flow. Pipes, A/C and a good tune helps a lot. The cam selection will help it more. I have not seen very many cams made for this motor. Yes off the shelf cams will work, but not optimized for the flow characteristic of this engine. Cyclerama makes a CR 595, Mackie a 598, the S&S 585 are a few that work well with this engine (though not all were made specifically for the 110).

If staying with HD SE parts, the SE 251 works well with it. But the stock 255 is an EPA cam and gives just enough cam to keep shifting all the time if you wanna have fun! You'll need to change throttle body too for best results. I'd consult with an engine designer/builder that knows the 110 and that you trust, and see what he recommends. ;)

Guys, its a 103, not a 110.

Seems Hoist does know the most along with Doc1 and 2 others from another website.

I am not looking for top end...this is a long haulcruiser, if so, I would get out my ProStreet with a 124 Balanced & Blueprinted Stroker that is hooked up from end to the other for that straight line riding or my 127 Bobber for the bar hopping.  Additionally, I would take the HD Motor out and go with another setup.  I bought this bike to ride with my lady aka Biker Bitch and I am looking for low-end to mid-range torgue under load with heat reduction.

Bought a SE Pro RT Training CD and picking up today.  It seems that I need to make changes the AFR, Close Loop Bias and the Volumetric Efficiencies.  Once I have learned to set it up to run cooler and efficiently...I will do several 15 min data runs with the laptop in the nap sack...then when I am happy, I will have it dynoed...I did look at a similar setup and looks as though 13 to 8 AFR across all RPMS on the dyno worked best with some idel adjustments.

Thanks Guys....I will repost after completing this over the next sevral weeks.

One other thought , Have you done any head work? If not porting and polishing to get extra flow would probably help.

For all you guys with 110's looking to cool off the bike, stay with HD parts, and have a hope of trying to maintain your w.....ty, just have the dealer check runout JIC, leave your hydraulic tensioners, open A/C, good free flowing exhaust (quiet FatCats), good tuning program, 50 mm TB, and SE 251 cams. This combo will wake the bike up surprisingly well. A little head porting and compression (9.5-10:1) will wake it up even more! that's all there is to it. But if you go that route, bear in mind this will do nothing for their BS leaks! As long as you don't mind running back and forth to the dealer (which you'll be doing anyway under w.....ty), then you shouldn't get hurt by HD either with this package. At least while you're bike is running, it'll run great!!! ;)
