Been with Geico for almost 25 years now and insure everything through them. (house, truck, cars, bikes, and 5th wheel)  Never had a problem with them and their customer service has always been top notch.   ;)

Reddevil-

To my knowledge Geico doesn't insure Homes.  Now they do broker them out through Travelers.  If that is what you mean.  I know for sure they do not insure homes in MD/VA/DE.  I am a independent insurance agent in those states, we have about 13 companies.  Allstate is one of them and they have come out with a real competitive Motorcycle product in MD.  Progressive, and Foremost which is owned by Farmers are also good companies for toys...

Now about the Lizard company...if you happen to end up on the other side of a claim with them...you will have some fun.  9 times out of 10 they deny the claim and you have to file it with your own company and your company will end up subrogating the claim.  That just means you have to wait for your company gets their money back and then they pay you back for your deductible.  Just make sure you have good coverage's yourself regardless if you purchase through an agent or if you decide to go direct.  Many times people actually do not save any money at all buying insurance direct they just end up sacrificing coverage's, or limits.

Reddevil it sounds like to me you have one of the older GEICO policies that were for state or federal employees.  When it used to be Government Employees Insurance Company.  They had excellent coverage's, and limits...but those policies are few and far between.  You would be shocked to see the limits that they put on most policies...I happen to meet a lot of people after they have had a claim that gets denied with them.  Of course I hear the same with other companies too.  But no where near the amount as with them.  Congrats to you if everything has went well and hope that it still continues to.  The hardest thing about the insurance industry is the actions of some companies can hurt everyone in the business.

More of a difference than that.  cavemen rocks and sticks are free.

I've got HD Progressive.  Not crazy about switching then I'd have to disclose that my 19 year old daughter is a licensed operator and the premium on mine and the wife's bike would double.

Harley Rider,
You're absolutely correct.  My homeowners insurance is through GEICO but underwritten by Travelers.  I've got extremely good limits on my vehicle (and home) policies and they've always been quick to respond and handle my claims.  When the tie strap broke that was holding my front end on the bike in the fifth wheel and the bike jumped out of the wheel chock and slammed into the garage wall, GEICO told me to take the bike anywhere I wanted, and they paid the shop directly for the work.  As far as the trailer, they sent their RV claims specialist and he wrote up the estimate and cut me a check.  When I got the estimate from my RV dealership, the estimate that the GEICO rep gave me was spot on with the dealerships.  And I didn't even tell them what he estimated.  The best part of this whole deal was that because the damage was done through no fault of my own, they labled it as a "no fault" claim so it wouldn't raise my premiums.  And to even give me a warm fuzzy, they had the underwriters call me to assure me that there would be no raise in my premiums.  I asked her if she'd be willing to put that in writing for me and she said most definitely.  They've been great with me over the years and I've never seen any reason to even want to go to anyone else.

I had my bikes insured by AIG until I recently got the renewal policy due on 25th of this month. Having my vehicles insured by GEICO I called them and for my surprise the preium was almost 50% less than I was going to pay in the renewal so I changed to GEICO. Now, I have vehicles and bikes with them!!!

Did your AIG rate go up?  Just wondering because I have heard of a lot of people that have been with them for years and their rates went up over 30%.  Take a look at their stock maybe this will tell you something...

Geico is buying business right now on the specialty lines side, they have just started this line of business and there is no data yet to see how their book will perform.  But I will just about bet my last dollar that their rates will be higher in a year or two.  Same thing Progressive did...we write for Progressive and when they entered the market they were the cheapest company around for bikes.  Allstate is doing it now for cruisers...Harleys etc...Foremost has a special product for bikes and their rates are not terrible for the crotch rockets.  That is just how the business works.  A company will saturate the market, obtain the share of business that they want and that is it...then they will start increasing premiums to keep the book at a level that is profitable.  It is called buying business...it works in cycles.  That is why it is a good idea to work with an independent insurance agent that works with multiple companies.  That way you can have your rate compared by other companies.

Best of luck to everyone with their insurance...just remember you have invested a lot of time and money in these babies...don't skimp on your insurance coverages.  Sometimes the cheapest companies are exactly what they say CHEAP!  I personaly don't like using the words cheap and insurance in the same sentence.  I always think it is funny what some people decide to save money on.  Just make sure you are carring good liability limits...because today...if you have even a little accident there are people that will sue you.   :2vrolijk_21:

HarleyRider,
All GEICO did was change the name from GEICO Indemnity to GEICO Powersports.   I've had all my bikes insured with them since 1985, so it's nothing new for them to insure motorcycles, RVs, boats, etc., and their rates have always been competitive with the other brands (they also have alwyas given a 10% discount if you have taken the MSF course, and a 25% discount if you're an MSF instructor, proof required of course).  They've been insuring them for years.  Like I said great rates and great service.  I have no complaints against them and now, because of my years I've been with them, I have a written guarantee that I'll never be dropped by them either.  (No mention of how high my rates will go though if I have too many at fault claims though.  ::) )  A lot of indies don't like them because they deal direct and not through agents, so that may be how they can offer lower rates, by cutting out the middle man's commission.  Every GEICO employee I've talked to said they're a great company to work for too, good benefits and relatively good pay.  Just my experience ... trust me, if I thought they weren't a good company, I wouldn't have been with them this long.  The name has changed, but the insurance is the same.

when they change the name it is a new company as far as the way they are filed in the state which is who regulates them and approves rate filings.

Red Devil...

Was typing on my i phone yesterday...kind of a pain...  :-\

Anyway...I am not trying to bad mouth Geico or any other company...Geico has been great for you that is wonderful...best of luck...there are loads of people that would disagree...just as well as there are loads of people that do not like Allstate, Progressive, etc.  Being a independent agent I can assure you it has nothing to do with the commissions you think that they are saving.  How much money do you think that it cost them to advertise the way they do.  They have had to do this because they did not have local offices/agents.  But Geico has just recently started using agents...hmmm  http://www.geico.com/about/find-an-office/

How many independent agents have told you this is why the do not like them?  You said that is why indies do not like them...
My reasons would be
(1) claims (not always their insured's...but the people their insured's hit)
(2) bad quotes...(resulting in higher premiums when people get their policy in the mail)

Trust me...I have several different carriers and some sell direct some don't.  The majority of people prefer using a licensed agent, and not buying insurance direct.  That is a fact.  Geico has a great model for buying insurance direct.  It has made old Mr.  Buffet billions...  Progressive has done well at this too.  This is a real weird time for insurance companies...they are not making any money in investments...and therefore a lot of them are increasing rates.  I just got a notice that another...direct carrier just was approved a 9.9% rate increase in MD.

The main point that I was trying to make...is not to skimp on coverage's...(not you...just in general)  I am sorry if I came off differently.  Typing is much different than talking.  I am definitely not criticizing you or anyone else.  If you choose to go direct...best of luck to you.  I am honestly happy for you that everything is working out and hope that it continues to.   :2vrolijk_21:

                                       DONT HIT ME
I'M NOT 100% SURE ABOUT MY COVERAGE
