OK then...here's the real question...
How long have you had it?
As you probably know, the 2620 is not "recommended" for motorcycle use, as it is hard-drive based. I assume that you have not seen any hard-drive failures...so...mounting recommendations, usage, etc? Thanks.
The 2620 has been on the bike for about 6000 of it's 10,000 miles so far. Over rough roads, in a couple of torrential rains, and all with no problem. Here's what I learned before using it.
Yes, Garmin's published data says not for motorcycle use as well as not for use on things like snowmobiles or other things that might go bump in the night or on the road. However.......
If you look at the g specs and other measures for amounts of force that can be absorbed by the mini hard drives the numbers are pretty remarkable. Enough of a jolt to take us off the saddle and throw us airborne is about what it would take to overcome the suspension in the little hard drives.
Speaking with some people with practical experience (the mount builders) this seemed to be confirmed. All of them said that something like a snowmobile or a rigid mount bike could be an issue. A rubber mount bike, however, would be ok.
If you're still concerned, however, there is a rubber isolating mount you can buy to mount on the handlebar that will further suspend and protect the GPS unit. It's physically larger occupying more space, a little more hassled to quickly mount and dismount, and for a rubber mounted bike not really necessary (at least as far I understood the spec's). So I've just used a simple easy on and easy off RAM mount setup.
The GPS unit is on or off the bike in about a minute. It's all small and easy to stow. And everything works great. Good luck with your unit. Sure you'll love it. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
