Oil Light At Low RPM's
« on: August 31, 2008, 07:24:42 PM »

Wife has a 03 low rider TC 88. Today the oil light started to come on when the RPM's are under 2200. Bike was serviced about 2500 miles ago with no other issues seen.

Any feedback is welcome

Try a maual oil pressure gauge to see if there is oil pressure issues or if it's  the sending unit for the "dummy' light

Agreed, then if it is low pull your cam cover and inspect your tensioners. They are probably shot which may have taken out the oil pump.

Thanks,

I thought I would start with an oil change, the oil was as thick as I have ever seen on any vehicle and there had to be 4 quarts in the bike. As soon as the new oil began to circulate the engine was running great and no more pressure warning light.

I think I will do my own oil changes from here on out. There is no way it should have in this condition or level having always been serviced by the dealer.

ONE thing to do is cut open the oil filter and if you see any bright orange pieces youll know the tensioners are failing. youll need to replace those soon anyway :bananarock:

Listen to what HD Dude said. The cam tensioners are shot. When they got ate up the oil pump picked up the trash. That in turn trashed the oil pump.
