So how bad is the 07 110 ??
« on: September 09, 2008, 08:35:43 AM »

Im looking at an 07 RK I really like but searched & read some things here that have me thinking twice. For the price of the 07 CVO I could have 2k to put into extra on a std tuq/white 09 RK classic?? The 07 had issues with the oring that was supposed to be fixed with the square oring & the said they put 400 miles on it & its fine now.... Whatcha think??

smoregan, welcome aboard. There are 100's of posts concerning the 110 problems. Sounds like even a few 09's are having issues. If it were me, and I decided to buy a 110, I would for sure get the extended wty and I never buy those things, but something tellls me that the 110 still isn't completely fixed. :-\

we seem to b hearing of fewer problems with the later 08/09 bikes, but only time will tell if the 110 problems r out of the woods yet. i am yet to be convinced, although my motor is running trouble free since the b headgasket was fitted.

I believe the "fix" is to get the people who don't have an extended warranty through the factory one.  After that it will be, "What do YOU want to do to about it?"  Faced with the same choice you have now I'd opt for the '09 without a 110 and see what problems are going to befall it rather than buy something that has a long list of known ones and an expired warranty.  That's just me, and I never used to be a cynic.

In my case, not bad at all, I have a 07 SE Ultra with 17,000 trouble free miles on it, I just received from the MOCO a program upgrade notice that gives me the option that any time within the next two years they will at no cost to me, replace cylinder heads with revised valve guides, Install new compression Releases, ACR,s install upgraded gaskets etc. I dont need to have the work done at this time but its a nice feeling to know that if one of the dreaded problems pops up I can simply schedule a repair. I installed Nightrider IED wires from the beginning to address the high temperatures on these engines caused by the EPA mandated Lean AFR ratios, im guessing Heat might be the culprit in many of the failures we read about. So far I have nothing but positive things to say about my 07, it has been a great ride.

Mine was fine.  I sold it but gave the new owner the paperwork..That bike was de-factory tuned with less than 10 miles on it and I too beleive it was factory stoke/afr that caused the problems...Sure it sucked gas down but the plugs looked fine and it ran strong..

Hi smorgan - welcome to the club.

I have an '07 SERK and have done over 10,000 since new. I have not had any problems, leaks or issues (except an intermittent neutral light issue - but no big deal). The bike runs well and sounds great. I have had at least 4 other Harleys over the years including other RK's but would not swap the bike I have now.

In fact I was unaware of this site (and the 110 issues) before I bought the bike. Some of these threads have now got me worried unnecessarily.

If you trust the dealer/seller and give the bike (and paperwork) a thorough inspection you should not have a problem.

Dartman, I would take them up on it before the two years is up if you're keeping your bike. You would essentially be getting a pertially new engine!

Already had mine done, but I had oil running down the heads...not seaping, running!

I know that this might sound a rather naive (or even foolish) statement judging from the experiences that some of you had and in truth it is why I use a dealer approx. 100 miles away, rather than the local one (less than 8 miles away). Over the years I have had some bad experiences with my local dealer and consequently do not trust them to do any more than sell me something I can walk out with and fit myself. However I have developed a relationship with another that has been built upon mutual respect and a level of customer care and attention that I can't fault - particularly with the service team. Perhaps I have just been lucky????  :coolblue:

Another on bites the dust!!! Unfortunately I pointed out Brian's rear HG leak today! He like most, never really knew what to look for. For those that don't, we'll say it again. Check the rear head under the exhaust pipe where it connects to the head. Look at the cylinder fins directly below the head. It'll either be dry and you'll still have silver fins, or it'll be a little or very wet and the cyl fins will be a golden brown! You see that, you've got a HG leak! ;)

I have a 07 SEUC, now has 14,000 miles on the clock. Had the gaskets replaced. Just took the bike on a 5,000 mile ride over 20 days. The bike ran perfect, great power, good fuel economy and did not burn oil. No Problems. I would recommend buying the ext warranty, but I no longer worry about my 110. If you don't care about the "goodies" that come on the cvo, I would go with a 2009, if you like the extras that make cvo's a little special, I would recommend buying the cvo. During my last trip, I can't tell you how many times people came up to me and told me how much they loved the paint and all the chrome. When I sat on a new 2009 Ultra, I liked the bike but felt disapointed at how plain it seemed. The cvo's just have a lot more pizzaz.

Good luck
