I put the Metzler on an Ultra Classic and had no complaints at all.  I know of a GW rider who put an Avon on his GW,replaced it with a Dunlop after 2000 miles.

I ran  the Avon Venoms on my other custom. You wont get 10,000 miles out of a rear tire . I usally changed the rear tire at about 5,000 miles with the venom. The venom are a softer tire. I switched to the ME 880s when they came out The Metzler ME 880s are good all around tire. Higher mileage than the venom.

You posted this over in General CVO and I answered you there but I'll try again.  Here's my recommendation on tire and place to get em.

Unfortunately "within reason" can be pretty subjective.  How much work you willing to do?

It's been written a couple of times here that going from the stock 140 to a 150 has caused rubs.  So if you don't want to have to worry about anything else on the bike it may be the 140.  If "reasonable" means you're willing to change some things than, like about anything else, "reasonable" gets defined as how much money you're willing to spend.

I run Metzler on my seeg and love em,  most companies do not have a 150 that is rated for our bikes.  Like the metzler it is a softer tire and corners better than the stock tire IMHO.
