Oil Filter Mount with Internal Thermostat

Saw this as one on the features on a CVO,
what is it?

The CVO Touring bikes come with a standard oil cooler mounted in front of the voltage regulator.   The oil cooler gets it's oil supply from the base of the oil filter.  The oil filter base also has a thermostat in it so that the oil does not go thru the oil cooler until the oil reaches a certain temperature, the stat opens and then oil circulates thru the oil cooler dropping the oil temp a few degrees.  Hope this helps.

It is a thermostatic valve that controls oil flow to the oil cooler, designed to block flow to the cooler until the oil reaches approximately 180°F, thus preventing over cooling of the oil.
