SERK upgrade impacts Drive Train Warranty!!!

Some of you will know I am seeking to get some of the hidden power out of my 7SERK. My HD Dealership has a performance engine builder working there. I asked him about getting some more torque. He said the HD man was coming to the dealership and so he would consult him for some idea also. Here is the e-mail I got from him.

Keith I spoke to the Head Tech from Harley today. He said 253 cams will work fine. And he also said the 10.5 comp pistons will work fine but there is a possibility they maybe getting up there in compression and may cause detonation, not good at all especially on the bottom end.

He said take 40 thou off the heads and that will get your compression up to about 9.8. He also said the 251 will work great but the valve pockets would have to be checked and more than likely machined.

NOTE:

CAUTION AND THIS IS WHERE IT GETS STICKY, IF YOU DO THESE MODS IT WILL VOID YOUR DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY.

I will be trying to get a straight answer from them today as to why the Drive Train should be so affected by the mods which in reality are quite tame.

CVOs are supposed to be the best in the HD Range and built with care and attention to detail are they not???

Full of crap about the mods, maybe, but not about voiding the powertrain warranty.

The Tech should not of said anything. It is all HD parts that they want to sell. Tell them to get the motor right in the first place and there should never be a problem!!!!

read the warranty, or the law

modify the engine and the warranty is VOID

plain and simple

change exhaust, cam, air cleaner - whatever - warranty is void.

if you want warranty service only use "street legal parts"

hi all
   my 2 cents

who buys a harley and REALLY worries about the FREAKEN warranty

my 3rd hd is comming and its my 1st cvo :bananarock: :bananarock:  and dam if I am going to worry about the big W   :nixweiss: .Never been able to get anything done under warranty anyway    >:( >:(,they have more excuses of not covering anything about the bike,tell them you wash the bike or ride it ,its seams like its void
If you are worried about a warranty,just buy a car  ;) ,everything is coverd seams like forever ;) :-\(chevy tech ,thats me on flat rate ,seems like nothing is cash pay)  sorry about the rant but just my 2 cents

Cheers mate. My engine builder is going to do some work on my options this coming weekend. He has a computer simulation program that he says provides real world numbers that compare very accurately with the completed build. He will bang in some different cams and comps and come back to me to discuss. Will check back with you guys.

Well done Keith, at least we know how to move forward with our mods!

Just as an aside - and this is not a Mo Co issue - but any lawyer (paid by a company) would draft a warranty that is not worth the paper it is written on!

I don't know why they just don't say... "buying this bike voids the warranty"...and be done with it.

The HD Guy also said (unofficially) that the mods we were proposing will actually make the motor better and will almost certainly improve reliability and longevity. Go figure the moco and their long term strategy for the business.
