How do I take a gauge apart to change a cracked lens?

I see companies on the net offering to change gauge faces so I am under the impression they pull the glass off to do so.

I'd like to be able to take one apart.....

I will have to look to see if I have an old gauge....

The only way I was able to do an old speedometer was to take a thin blade screwdriver and pry up the chrome retaining ring a little all the way around the gauge to get enough room to remove it.It will leave some tooling marks on the ring when bent back tight but they couldn't be seen once the speedo was but back in the dash. Check YouTube, there are several videos.

Puzzled, there is a place I use for gauge repair called North Hollywood Speedometer & Clock Co. 6111 Lankershim Blvd. North Hollywood Ca. 818-761-5136.  I broke the lens on my 95 Heritage Speedo and they fixed it for about $60.00. I sent it over UPS and they sent it back to me in about a week. CAHDBIKER

Hey Puzzled,   I accidentally disassembled one by over tightening in my fairing.  POP!   the chrome bezel and glass flew across the bike.
I took it to a Mennonite glass cutter who cut me another glass and then took two wood clamps and carefully pressed the chrome bezel back on.  Quite frankly, I got lucky!  But if your gauge is the same as the Harley oil temp gauge,  the bezel presses on over a lip to hold everything together.

good luck
