Question on 0906 Service Bulletin
« on: September 27, 2008, 11:12:59 PM »

I have the 0906 service bulletin and have not performed the work yet.  I do not have any problems, oil leaks on my bike to date (knock on wood).  I have noticed on previous posts that some recall notices were sent out to some members to replace the heads as part of their service bulletings.  Mine is just for gaskets, ACR and center crankcase bolt.

My bike was delivered at the end of April 2007 ~ Is there a date of manufacture that would determine if heads needed to be replaced or not vs just gaskets.

Thanks in advance!

They are only replacing the heads on the Ultra's.

Thanks!  Do you know why only the Ultras?  Aren't the engines the same on all the CVO bikes?

That's the same question the Road King folks have been asking as well.  Current theory is that the Ultra's run a little hotter due to the lower fairings, and it's the higher temperatures that cause the valve guides to move in the heads.  I personally believe that is a bunch of hooey and that the MoCo should replace all of them if they think this is such a big problem.  I also think it's most likely a non issue for most folks.  There have been very few reports of valve guide failures, especially compared to the number of head gasket or even crank failures.  If the interference fit of the guide to the head is right, the guide isn't going anywhere no matter how hot the head gets.  And if that fit is too loose, odds are it will fail sooner rather than later.  After a couple years of riding without a problem, I don't think I would let this one worry me.
