Exhaust Systems
« on: September 26, 2008, 11:12:17 PM »

OK, I'm new here. I am considering changing my sewing machine sounding pipes for something with a little less heat on my thighs. I ran Rhineharts on my 05 Ultra and after getting my new 08 flhtsuci I don't miss the noise. I've been considering the BUB 7 2 into 1's. I'm wanting the best bang for my buck. What pipes are best for torque, Horse power, cost, looks, etc.?

SupperTraps 2:1 Supper Megs with the tunable disc is a good runner up to the Fat Cats, if not better in quieting down the sound level. You can tune these pretty quite, almost as quite to stock exhaust. I just recently purchased the Fat Cats and now wishing I would have went with the SupperTraps 2:1's. The chrome quality on these are outstanding as well.

Good luck on finding something that takes away the heat, not a whole lot helps on these bikes since 07, most of the heat is coming off of the engine itself, the 110's run a little hotter than the 96's.

With your new exhaust system you'll need to re-tune and you should be able to tune out most of that heat. A 2:1 exhaust system will help quite a bit with heat managment and true duals are 2nd to best. The reason you are seeing these heat issues on the 07's and up is due to EPA regulations causing the MoCo to lean out the motors so they meet these guidline. The lean condition is attrubuting to all the heat. Tuning your motor is #1 priorty.

Yep, I know why it runs hotter, i had this bike for 2 years and tried a lot of different things to cool it down and guess i stumbled upon this, when i installed the V&H Big Shots i also installed a PCIII, Then later went with the Thunder Monster Baffels which made it run rich, fuel milage dropped but bike ran cooler, Then installed a Arlen Ness Big Sucker which leaned it back out just a tad, Bike still runs cooler than stock H-D Exhaust, mileage came back up a little and so did throttle response, which helps alot since most of my riding is in the mtns. here in E. Tenn, Leaving for Myrtle Beach Tues. A.M. so will see how the gas mileage does running interstate speeds for extended amount of time.

This is my 2 cents. I installed Reinharts true duals, air cleaner and SERT. Sound was alittle loud, but bearable. Down in Sturgis this year I installed the 4" tail gunner exhaust, with no baffles. Looks great and the sound is comparable to the Reinhart's. Not sure if this helps or not. Was thinking of trying 2-1 this winter.  :nixweiss:
