Limited Exhaust Choices 2008 FLHXSE 110
« on: March 17, 2012, 02:14:22 AM »

The dealer had V & H true duals installed when I first bought the bike.  Have always had trouble getting it tuned correctly.  Many members here recommend the Fullsac X Pipe.  Looking at their site, it doesn't seem like they make an X Pipe that fits an 08 with a 110.  What would be the brand choice and product name of the exhaust?  All recommendations and comments are welcomed.  From what I've read on here, it seems like most are recommending a 2-1-2 exhaust and to stay away from the true duals.

the sesg didnt come out until 2010.   Back in 2008, most were using true duals or a 2 into 1 system,,  D&D and Rineharts were very popular then.  Thats tje old frame too. 2009 is when lots here got busy with Fulsac and switching cores using them in their stock cans.. Or you can get some new mufflers and use them with your stock head pipe too..

Thanks for the info.  Do you know of any company that makes an X pipe or a 2-1-2 exhaust for a 2008?

not sure,  you can see if Drago exhaust offers one..  they do some custom stuff I think.  Or just try looking at the popular ones. :nixweiss:

Any of the current exhaust offerings will fit that bike but you must get the oil pan for the newer bikes to do so.

There ya go..   Call HD first, get the current oil pan and heat shields and mufflers,   Then call Fulsac. You also need the crossover pipe from hd and the mounting hardware. Have fun.  :huepfenjump3:

What do you want from your exhaust? Performance? Sound? Appearance?
I'm running BUB 7 TD on my 02 & 08 SERK with good low end power, good sound and appearance. The X pipe / oil pan mod is another consideration. There are a number of good exhaust available for the older frame, depends on what you want.

At least S&S (and whoever it is that makes it for them; the name escapes me just now) offers a crossunder interconnected dual pipe system that'll mount right up to these pre-'09 bikes, too, but I believe cornering clearance might be a bit diminished with them.

The main thing if one wants to run closed-loop (or maybe even just make it easier to tune) is that the O2 sensor mounting is actually correct.  The sensor has to protrude sufficiently into the pipe and it has to do so in a manner/location where good, reliable samples can actually be obtained.  V&H, it seems, doesn't care about that aspect.  And the stock '07/'08 headers are problematic on the rear cylinder at lower speeds with open mufflers both sides.

Glens,

I think you nailed the problem that I've been having with my bike!  On the V & H True Duals that are currently on, the back cylinder 02 bung is at a real extreme angel and is probably not getting a good reading at low rpm's and that is where the problem is.  (Currently have Revolution Performance Auto Tuner and have tried the Power Commander and the SEPRT).  The bike runs fine at 2500 rpm's or higher.  At low rpm's, it has an extreme vibration, doesn't idle correctly and has somewhat of a problem starting.  The current tuner that I have on has so far been the best and the SEPRT has been the worst in the attempt to cure this low rpm problem.  I think that I will lean toward the oil pan switch and the fullsac X pipe.  I think that I will opt for a little quieter slip ons than I currently have, any suggestions?  The V & H that I have now sound great but make it hard to hear the stereo.

My best friend is running the S&S header system that Glen mentioned, on his 08 SG. He is a cornering fool and hasn't noticed any major issues with clearance. I run Fullsac and love the system and customer service doesn't get any better. But for this application the S&S was a much easier fit and seems to work and look great. We did the install ourselves and it was very easy. Fit and finish is awesome with one exception. He had to take his mufflers to a local muffler shop and have the intakes expanded slightly. It was such an easy adjustment that the guy at the shop didn't even charge him. Oh, his muffs are CFR's, but I don't think it matters. Hope this helps
