HQ-0039 Cams
« on: February 10, 2011, 08:42:21 AM »

Has anyone installed the HQ-0039 cams in their SE 103? I am putting cams in an 04 SEEG I bought last winter. Stock heads and compression. It does have true duels, hi-flow air breather and a power commander. I need a good tuner in the Houston area, any suggestions?

With a closing of 36..it works out to  9.09 corrected..realistically not enough compression to make that cam work. the SE 255 bumps it up to 9.41..much happier with stock heads and gaskets..just runs out of steam @ 5000 rpm

How about the Red Shift 575 Zippers has a good rep. and it's built for a se 103.

In my humble opinion, i ran the Redshift 575's with my stock 110 and while they will make more power than the stock setup it will move everything to the right and i didn't like that. I'm getting so lazy that i don't like to have to turn my wrist very far if i don't have to. I would bring the compression up some if it were me, or better yet call cyclerama and see if he thinks his 575's would be a good set-up for you.

As per evostroker's comments i agree totally and that is why i suggest the cyclerama 575's as they carry the narrow timing you want for street riding but at the same time you can wring her out on the other end and keep your low end grunt.
I like mine. Check em out

Cycle Rama 575 cams

Intake   Open  15        Close  35      .575 lift   230 duration  100LC   22 degree overlap   105.5 LSA

Those cams I have no experience with in a SE103. The 103 has a very odd stock cam and almost anything will offer an improvement even a 204.
On paper the 0039 doesn't look too bad but I have not tried them personally. That cam is a good worker with dougs OEM ported heads.
Use the online compression calculators and know that your heads are roughly 98cc and the head gasket is .045, pistons likely down ~.005.
Target 9.2/1 corrected for cam compression and it will run very well.
The SE103 has nice heads, same ports as the SE performance MCR heads but an open chamber. You can mill them to bring the compression up a bit and they respond great to mild headwork.
